Recumbent, my heart really goes out to you. Some people of a certain generation are like your Dad, not bad people, just raised in era when emotions were not talked about and the Bible was very much taken as full truth with no questions asked. I have a friend who has a similar situation with his folks. A couple of points, if you don't mind my asking. Would your Dad be ameanable to going to therapy? A social worker or psychologist could point him in the right direction towards meds. Even his GP could start him on something to be continued with a psychiatrist later when he accepts things better. Also, can you find some things in the Bible to back up the absolute necessity for your Dad to be extra good and loving toward you, your Mom, and other family members. I am not trying to imply he isn't, but maybe a good example of the value of family will boost him to be attentive toward your concerns for him.
I am glad you have found help with Lexapro. I too am on one of the many anti-depressants I have tried over many years, and they have saved my life. I hope you find strength and help for your Dad and your family during what must be a very difficult time for you. If you ever need to talk or want support, I am here. I check Psych-Social-Babble a lot for the chat support so I will look for you there if you ever want to log on.
Best, Searchlight
