There are interesting clinical studies that showed benzos to be good antidepressants. They have also been shown to speed up the onset of action of antidepressants.

They can also cause or increase depression. It all depends on what underlying chemistry is at fault. It could be a miracle and it could be a nightmare. It will vary dramatically from one person to the next. But yes, benzos can be good antideppressants for some people. In my opinion, if it works, don't argue about it and don't worry about wondering why, just accept it and go with it and be happy you accidentally found something that works. I personally could care less what it is that works or how it works, just as long as it works.
