I have also heard that remeron is less sedating at higher doses, but I completely disagree. I'm taking 75 mg/ night. I am so sedated an hour after taking my meds I am nonfunctioning, and I can hit snooze for up to 2 hours in the morning (alarm going off every 5 min) and I never remember awakening to turn the alarm off. I've never overslept and missed class or an appointment, but it is very sedating for me at the higher doses-- I've taken 45, 60, 75, and 90. The sedation does taper off after taking it for a month or so, but I've never have that effect completely disappear (even when the med stopped having a therapeutic effect and no longer made me ravenously hungry).
I too have had periods where I wake up and feel like I can't go back to sleep, for some reason I also feel agitated at these times. If I just calm down and try to relax I usually get knocked out again in no time. You might want to take your dose higher than 30 (although it may take some getting used to). I personally don't see full antidepressant effects from this med under 60 mg/night.
