Vynase, yea i reasearched on this medication, it isnt like adderall or anyother stimulant. But it actually is motablized into d-amphetmaine. Maybe thats why later you felt focused.

Its really wierd....how long did it last anyways because i heard it lasts for about 12hours.

At first I was skeptical because I was expecting to feel the effects set in sooner like adderall ...went about my day and thought it just wasn't going to work at all, but then I felt it set in and it lasted alot longer at a smoother rate than adderall. You just need patience for it to take its effect.

I remember talking about this drug some time ago, before it was given a name (it just had a number). Vynase is D-amphetamine bound to L-Lysine (an amino acid). Seems it is hoped to discourage abuse (which is possible with standard amphetamines).

From http://blogs.webmd.com/adhd-medications-and-treatments/ :
FDA Approves New ADHD Drug Vyvanse

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) for the treatment of ADHD. Vyvance was designed to lower the potential for abuse. Stimulant medications are the first-line treatment for ADHD, but many clinicians are reluctant to prescribe stimulants because they are often misused in our society. However, children and adolescents with untreated ADHD are at an increased risk of developing a problem with substance use, and effective treatment of ADHD significantly decreases that risk.

The route of administration of a stimulant has a strong affect on abuse potential. Drugs that are rapidly absorbed and achieve higher blood levels can produce a euphoric effect. This effect is easier to obtain by crushing short acting tablets and snorting or injecting them. Longer acting tablets and capsules are not easily put into a form that can be snorted or injected, and thus have a less abuse potential.

Vyvanse is d-amphetamine (dextroamphetamine) that is linked or bound to a naturally occurring amino acid, l-lysine. This compound is inactive (is inert) until this bond is broken by enzymes (metabolized) in the GI tract (stomach and intestine), releasing the active drug, d-amphetamine.

Since there are no enzymes in the nasal passages that can break this bond, blood levels would be 96% lower if Vyvanse were snorted than if d-amphetamine were snorted, and 75% lower if it were injected. When given intravenously to adults with histories of stimulant abuse, Vyvanse produced less euphoric effects than d-amphetamine, and the effects were not significantly different than intravenous placebo.

Absorption of Vyvanse is delayed, compared to d-amphetamine, and without a quick onset, the intensity and "likability" (drug-seeking behavior) drops. When Vyvanse is taken orally, increasing doses produce increasing blood levels, but only up to a certain point (130 - 150 mg), beyond which higher doses will not produce higher blood levels, which might reduce abuse potential and toxicity from overdose.

Vynase is given once daily in the morning, and it is significantly effective until at least 6:00 PM. Its effectiveness, potential for side effects, and safety is comparable to Adderall XR. It does have the potential to reduce stimulant abuse or misuse, and may protect against toxicity from overdose.

I would be curious to hear how it is working for you after a week or 2 and after a month etc.

I tried it for 8 days and today being the last day (no script - no more - doing my own little trial), the tolerance has increased a lot. Today it is not even doing much at all for me after doing great the firt few days, and it doesn't last nearly as long as it did - and thats just in 8 days!

Of course I did make some mistakes that could help cause that like taking another dose late afternoon/early evening to deal with Paxil withdrawal, waiting for the Paxil to work agian as I started it agian. Also, I started out day one wrong too. I knew about the delayed effect and how it had to be motabilized but I still wasn't patient enough since the night I decided to try it was after over eating (probably delayed it even longer), so after a couple hours I took another 75mg (mistake!). After a while, I felt really good the rest of that night (I figured I would just stay up one night and then sleep the next night). The first couple days/nights ended up being pretty off schedule without sleep but then after I started doing it right and sleeping etc it was more meellow but still worked good. Then the last few days its effectiveness has gone downhill fast. I also think that overlapping a dose (taking more than one in a day) probably increases tolerance since there is an extra high level durring the overlap.

The other factor for me is that I have a very addictive brain/pysiology and so I wonder how much tolerance increase would have happened anyway.

Its pretty depressing for me. Anti-depresants don't do much, but if I get off them I am super miserable. The first few days of Vynase was wonderful (as well as times I tried Adderall),. My PA at the local shrink center would never give me a script with my history of drug abuse. I could try to find a doc that would but thought I would try it without a script and decide for myself if the addictive nature would be much of a problem.

At least with Adderall does can be increased but since they made this so somehow you can't really be effected by more than 135 to 150mg, it has left mehigh and dry. If I can ever try it one more time, I will make sure I just take the 75mg and see how well it works after a week.

This whole thing kinda sucks because I really can't afford the arm and leg I had to pay for the stuff on the street. Not only is there obviously no coverage, but I probably paid at least twice as much as it would cost at a pharmacy. And all to give me a huge tease of how well I could feel in life if I was somebody other than me.

Theoretically Vyvanse has lower abuse potential because it is slow release. Talk to your PA about your ADHD symptoms and see what your options are. Sometimes depression causes people to assume the worst outcome. Vyvanse may be an option for you.

This article might be useful for you, especially the part about how Vyvanse has reduced abuse liability.

J Psychosoc Nurs Ment Health Serv. 2008 Aug;46(8):19-22.

Lisdexamfetamine: a prodrug stimulant for ADHD.

Howland RH.
University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. HowlandRH@upmc.edu

This article reviews the unique prodrug stimulant lisdexamfetamine dimesylate (LDX, Vyvanse), an approved treatment for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. LDX is an inactive prodrug in which l-lysine is chemically bonded to d-amphetamine. Although its efficacy is not significantly different from that of other stimulants, LDX may be different with respect to potential toxicity and abuse liability. In this article, I will review the short-term controlled studies that were the basis for LDX's approval for both children and adults; the lack of and need for more long-term studies; two double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover studies that examined LDX's abuse liability; and clinical uses for the drug. The clinical implications stemming from LDX's unique characteristics are also discussed.
