Posted by liza05342 on May 27, 2008, at 16:30:54

I have been on this horrible drug for 11/2 monthes. I started at 30mg and went to 60. I stopped sleeping gained weight became irritable and violent, was told to stop the drug. I still can't sleep due to panic attacks before I fall asleep, and weird dreams I am dizzy and feel like I'm dying my head hurts constantlly and I can't remeber yesterday. How much longer will this go on for. I can't remember ever having this much trouble with a drug.

I am in the same boat with you minus the weight gain part. I have no more advice than what you have probably read. Things that are helping me maintain are: staying calm when awake, focusing on positive thoughts, getting fresh air. I am finding low light and low volume XM radio Audio Vison channel to help somewhat as I am trying to get to sleep at night. I think that our irratibility is exacerbated when we try to get our brains around what is going on and how long this could possibly last. For what its worth - I am in AA and what helped me stop drinking was to take things moment by moment, hour by hour and day by day. I feel panicked when I think of these symptoms continuing much longer so i am "choosing" to stay as calm as posssible in the moment and know that I will make it this hour. Just as many others attest to making it here on this site. God Bless and hang in there. Typing this is a reaffirmation to me as well as you.

It's an old trick from Dr Bobs Tips section, but Benadryl is said to be useful for Effexor withdrawals, so would probably be good for Cymbalta too.

Some natural supplements could help considerably. Among them I would take small amounts of a combination of any two or three or these:
Passionflower
Valerian
Skullcap
Lemon Balm
All are good for anxiety, panic, and sleep.

For headaches, probably tylenol or advil, whichever works better for you. If they are super bad, my dentist said taking both at the same time is as strong as prescription pain relievers.

Another option is to get back on cymbalta and withdraw slower. Maybe take 15mg per day and reduce it by 1mg every 3 days. To do this, empty out the capsule in a small bowl. The beads are enteric coated. Approximately 10 of them equals 1mg. Count out your desired dose and sprinkle them on something soft such as applesauce or yogurt and swallow without chewing. Every 3 days just reduce the dose by 10 beads. There will still be withdrawals, but much tamer and more manageable. Not like being hit by a tank.
