ZOLOFT Withdrawals

Posted by michelle_13 on September 28, 2007, at 17:11:58

Does anyone know if Omega 3 supplements help with "brain zaps?" (oe ANYTHING else?)I've been off Zoloft for 2 days from 150mg a day fro about 6 months and before switched straight from Lexapro. The "zaps" are dibilitating. I'm having them about every few minutes. Can't concentrate... even having them in my sleep. HELP!!

Did you mean you went straight from 150 to zero..that's way too fast..you need to go down about 50 mg a week at minimum until you are off..you may still get the zaps but they will be much less severe..I wasn't sure from your post if you went from Lexapro to Zoloft or have just started taking Lexapro straight off Zoloft...i've done that with minimal problems..as they are in the same "group"..

I'm of the school of thought that slow and careful lessens the dreaded withdrawal symtoms, especially the brain zaps..hope this helps

I went from 30mg of Lexapro straight to 150 of Zoloft. The transition there was fine. Ihated Zoloft. I am also on 250mg of Limictal.(Bi-polar 2, supposedly). I had no libido and felt like an ice queen. Rarely had any emotions except occasiomal anger fits. My doc, which is an addictionologist (DO), told me to go down to 75mg for a week then to 0. Its been about 7 days since I've been off and the withdrawals are becoming a bit "lighter", I am also taking 2000mg of Omega 3 a day and doing an herbal body cleanse. Ifeel like crap most of the time. Tired, cranky, body aches. I have also been taking Chantix for about 21/2 wks. I guess I'm not sure how I feel or why since I have so much going on. I see my doc today. I'm affraid he's going to put me back on the Zoloft. Ihate these drugs, ALL of them, oi wish I could be "normal" with none of them. Thanks for your response, it's nice to be able to "vent" to someone who understands.

Coming off of zoloft is horrible!!! A lot of people have said that tapering off is really the way to go and even switching from zolofts lowest dose to a bit of prozac in the end of the taper softens the transition.

I personally tapered once and had horrible side effects and then another time just went cold turkey and it was hellish as well. For me they both sucked. I got no relief from tapering.

It lasts at the most 2 weeks though so know that there is an end to the misery!

I had vertigo, rushing sensations, electric feelings if I looked left or right, it was crazy!

When I 1st decided to get pregnant with my son I had to withdraw from paxil and it was the same horrible mess. It is all the SSRI's but Zoloft and Paxil are supposedly worse then Prozac, it has to do with the half-life of the drug. Either prozacs is longer or shorter then the others not sure which. Maybe longer? so it stays in your system longer and cushions the blow of coming off??? I am really not sure.

I feel bad for you, that is a miserable feeling I felt like I was going crazy each time, which sucks because its like here I am trying to come off a psych med and feeling worse then ever!

Hang in there it gets better.

I take prozac now, I really can't get by without it but I prefer it to zoloft, zoloft made me grind my teeth and get headaches.

Good luck Sorry this post was so long!

Michelle,

I am not tapering off of Zoloft but taking supplements has definitely helped with withdrawal symptoms. And yes, that includes omega 3 supplements.

I have fortunately never had brain zaps but assume they would help those also.
