SSRI for Xanax withdrawal?

my psy doc told me that SSRIs help with Xanax withdrawal, anyone heard that before or know if it's true?

It could take anywhere from four to eight weeks for you to feel the full benefits of the SSRIs, so keep that in mind. I was on Paxil, and due to an intentional overdose on Xanax, my psychiatrist stop prescribing it cold turkey. I didn't particularly notice any withdrawal symptoms...it could depend on how long you've been taking Xanax.

Yes, it is documented that SSRIs aid in easing withdrawal symptoms from benzos. Most commonly used is paroxetine -- the only objection to adjuvent drugs as such is that you will essentially create another dependence in the process. You might first try a cross-taper using diazepam as opposed to using another class of drugs to alleviate symptoms of w/d.

No way! They are absolutely contraindicated during benzodiazepine withdrawal, unless maybe you're already used to taking it.

Do _NOT_ try to use an SSRI to help with xanax withdrawal. You will be VERY uncomfortable as as result!
