3 days off Xanax

Posted by chess on April 25, 2005, at 21:29:01

any other xanax users have these withdrawal and/or rebound anxiety
symptoms (and how long did they last?) ... ear pain, ear popping,
ringing in ear, sinus crackling, pressure-tingling feeling in face and
in side of head above the ears and in back of head near neck, dizzy-
vertigo-unsteadiness, face feels numb, unsteady gait when walking,
prickly-like goosebumps all over, eyes itchy, itchy skin all over,
scalp itchy too, jittery, stomach tight, hard to breathe, muscles
tight, WHEW!!!)

i need some reassurance also please, i have this fear that i might
have a seizure at anytime from stopping xanax, my doctor told me i
won't because i have no predisposition to having a seizure and that i
took a low dose of xanax for a short time (i took XanaxXR .5mg at
bedtime and in the morning for 2 months, and then i tapered off using
regular Xanax for 2 weeks)

thanks!

there are some good herbal supplements that might help calm you down like Kava or valerian at night for sleep. Or try eating some plain turkey in large amounts or pasta so that you can get the calming effect from increased serotonin that eating those foods produces.
take it easy though, good luck

Why are you discontinuing the xanax? It sounds like you still need something for anxiety. Fondly, Phillipa

Keep it up Chess! You'll be glad one day even though this is tough right now. Give yourself 10-14 days from the last dose before you even dream that you can make a sane decision on the matter. Trust me I know how painful it is, but you will prevail!

Stay in touch...Maybe you can help me through this when I go to try in a couple weeks.

Just keep telling yourself you're in drug withdrawal from possibly the drug that induces physical dependence worse than any other. Heroin addicts tell me benzo withrawal was worse. Why do you think there are so many long-term users (who are still suffering anxiety I might add!) out there!

Stay the course and check in as needed for support!

Scott

Could quitting after only two weeks of Xanax use cause acute symptoms? I know someone who quit suddenly but it was prescribed to help with anxiety and he had some of those to begin with.

Hang in there. I was on that for 8 years and ate it like candy. I became pregnant and of course stopped right away. I was just very irritable and threw a few things. The anxiety came back but I didn't have a choise because of the baby. Everyone has different symptoms when it comes to withdrawals. I would do it slowly if you can. I didn't have a choice, you do. I went to many years without anything for my anxiety and now I take klonipin for it. I just can't suffer like that anymore. I've been dealing with it for over 25 years, 3 kids in between when I couldn't take anything. I wish you the best of luck. By the way my Pdoc won't give me the xanax for some reason.
