Withdrawal From Effexor XR

Posted by ABBA on April 20, 2005, at 8:16:40

If anyone has any info on withdrawal from effexor please let me know! I am 26 and I have been on anti depressants for about 5 years. I have been on effexor for about 2 of those years and I am ready get off. At one time I was up to 300 mg and I am now down to 37.5 and It is really scary. I have not had any in 2 days and I am hardly able to function. Is this going to hurt me. I am not currently under the care of a physician... I have been taking samples for the past couple of months because I no longer have health insurance... So, I am doing this alone and I am really afraid of something going wrong. I have heard people talking about messed up eye sight - permanent damage.. and things... Will any of this happen to me? Someone with any info on this please let me know It will be greatly appreciated! I am a sales rep, so I have to drive all day and I dont feel safe on the road... What to do??? How long will this last and should I take a pill if I am feeling this nuts????

The withdrawal board is about exactly this, and there are a lot of tips and options for ways to minimize withdrawal from meds like Effexor.

Good luck.

Hey ABBA. You have found a wonderful source of information! I was on 150mg per day until 3 weeks ago. Mr Dr told me to take it every other day to get off it. Wrong! That lasted one week and I crashed and was violently ill. I then began the tapering method so many describe here. I began cutting my dose in half, then in forths, etc and going only as long as I can UNTIL the brain zaps & dissorientation begin. I hate driving when the symptoms begin. I can only imagine how hard it must be for you! Since your supply is so very limited, began reducing your dose even more. I bet and hope you will find that a "little really does go a long way!" Good luck to you!
