Experience severe benzo withdrawal and I think your role as benzo advocate might change a little. I too once thought that these drugs saved my life. Then I hit tolerance and had to keep increasing my dosage over and over to achieve the same effect. Once these drugs turn on you, things get nasty and you are in for the ride of a lifetime.

With all due repect to your experiences, they have not been mine and my experience has been over a number of years.

The benzo controversary will always remain and I have watched the tide ebb and flow for too many years.

I am respectful of your experiences I would appreicate if the same respect were extended to me.

Ok and I won't mention it again, but just remember that it can turn on you at any time. It took this one person I knew 30 years and they eventually paid the price..

Not that it would necessarily have helped this person, but many people now have success discontinuing benzodiazepines if they use the taper schedules now recommended.

My taper schedule scott...8 month withdrawal period from 10 mgs of diazepam. Here was my schedule from 1 mg down

1 mg to 0.75 mgs-10 days
0.75 to 0.5 mgs-14 days
0.5. to 0.25-17 days and then ran into horrible problems.

..You should have the proper info. before you judge. I never said I tapered too fast. You implied that. That's faulty judgement on your part. If you look at my tapering schedule, you would find that not many people come close to tapering that slow

Did you get my emails? You never replied.

I believe Scott was referring to the person you said you knew 30 years.

I do not believe Scott was judging you.

You may very well have tapered too fast. You may have planned out a perfectly reasonable sounding taper that ended up being too fast for your particular body. This is not a judgement. It is simply a possibility. I finished most of my taper with clonazepam in about a month. That taper would have been too fast for some.

I'm sorry you had a difficult time. Did your doctor suggest the option of a cross-taper with a shorter-acting benzo to ease the discontinuation?

I have a concern over this.

I'm now on Klonopin for the 1st time in my life. My doctor recommended I take more than I felt comfortable with.

I am taking .25 x's 2 a day.

I am considering after only 1 week trying to decrease it to only .25 once a day.. Then after a few weeks, decrease to .12

The last thing I want to do is get addicted on these things and have a hard time getting off of them.

I have a father who is an addict and Benzo's are one of his drugs of choice.

Hi.

I was responding to what you had written in the post that I replied to:

"Ok and I won't mention it again, but just remember that it can turn on you at any time. It took this one person I knew 30 years and they eventually paid the price.."

I came to believe that "this person" was someone other than you. My statement was quite general and, I thought, appropriate.

No worries folks.

I'll just quietly pass around the Midol and Chocolate and all will be fine.

I remember once getting down to .l25mg of xanax every other day. When I reached this point I couldn't get past it. My pdoc at the time suggested that it was having a placebo effect. That was not true. I would start to feel the beginnings of panic. I have to add that I have been on one or another benzo for over 30yrs. My mother took them, my father, my sister, her daughter, my son. I believe some people need them in different amts throughout their lives. Maybe it's genetics. After all Bipolars don't question the need for meds. Everyone is different. Spriggy don't worry about what you're on now. You need to recover from your ordeal. And, you can't even find a pdoc. Fondly, Phillipa

I originated this post to be a "Goodbye" post on the med board as there is where I have been most active. I realize posts evolve and and this one has taken an evolution I did not foresee.

I realize I have no control over this, but I request, graciously, that if further discussions of the topic of withdrawal issues is desired, that a new thread is started.

Thank you
I wish wellness to all
And --- Goodbye

Neal, Glydin wasn't trying to say that benzos don't cause withdrawal symptoms- it is well known to all of us that they can. She was pointing out the difference between physical dependence on benzos and 'drug addiction'. Although you have been physically dependent on diazepam you are not a 'drug addict'.
