I'm not good on those sort of books.
What about "The Name of the Rose"?

I could be wrong, but I think the book is set here....

The book doesn't make it feel like that though. There is evil around, somewhere or other.

Wow that looks a lot like MAD LUDWICKs Castle I saw while I lived in Germany. It was made of pure gold and mirrors.
Thank you again

"First Patient" is really good!! Fast and VERY suspenseful.
Also, if you're into medical stuff, Robin Cook has a bunch of medical mystery thrillers (((robin cook's books)))

James Patterson books are great. Also See Jane Run was a great book recommended by a pdoc I worked with I think it's by Joy Felding. Her other books are great also. Phillipa

"Twilight"
I was going to suggest that series too! I recently finished the second one and am ready for the third. Its about vampires, but kind of a love story too. It very easy reading, its intended toward a 'young adult' audience. I like the main character because she's clumsy like me! They are fun books.

The southern vampire series by Charlane Harris is also a good set of mystery/action/vampire books. They are also hilarious.
The first one is called "Dead Until Dark"
I've read all the Twilights, and they are good.
Patricia Cornwell also writes a good medical/mystery thriller. But I got really tired of her books after a while.

Just to add on to what TC said, it's not vampires in the traditional sleep in coffins, blood sucking way. I was really skeptical starting them, but it's such an easy read, and the love story is so intriguing. The movie "Twilight" that just came out over Christmas, is based on the first book, but i've heard it's a lot cornier than the book.

I don't have much money to spend, but I think I'm going to go to my favorite store tomorrow, Half Price Books. My brother works in one, but his is about an hour away from me, so the gas would out weigh his discount, so I'll go to the one nearby. He says they can't keep the Twilight series on the shelves, so I'll probably have to look for something else. I'll look for those Charlane Harris books, and maybe some classic horror and scifi - like Frankenstein, Jeckle and Hyde, maybe some Lovecraft and Bradbury. Plus I lost my copy of Jurassic Park and would like another. We'll see what I find.

Sissy,
Hi there!!!
I just got through reading all four books in two weeks. (WOW, that was a record for me). Honestly, once you start with them, you can't stop. My sister steered me to them because she knows how much I love vampires. No, not blood, gore or scary stuff. I won't read or watch anything like that.
These books from Stephanie Myers are Great!!! It's a vampire love story with so many catches, turns, they are just GREAT!!!
There's no blood and gore because she wrote them targeting teenage girls, but because of the way she wrote them, they appeal to older adults also.
(I don't have daughters but, I have several friends that do and they all say that it was a wonderful experience to be able to read and share these books with their daughters). And don't be thrown back when you see how long each book is because you get so caught up in the story, that you will blow right through them. I read one of them in three days and my sister read the same book in two days. They really are addictive.
I just got started on another series of books written by Charlaine Harris. The first book is called "Dead Until Dark". This series of books are about to become a series on HBO called "Trueblood". So, I am trying to get a jump on them.
Let me know if you should have anymore questions.
Hope this helps.
Courtney

Hey Seldom.
I am just starting on "Dead Until Dark".
Blew through the "Twilight" series in 2 weeks. They were great, although I was dissppointed in the movie.
Nora Roberts just came out with a series of books that are kind of along the same lines. Can't remember the titles, but I saw them in the book store, but decided on the Dead Until Dark series first.
Let me know how your liking the Charlaine Harris books!!

My neice, who works at the library says they have the "twilight" books there, so maybe you could try your local library.
Just a thought.

Good idea! I ended up not going book shopping because I ended up having less money than I thought. I don't know why I didn't think of the library! I may go there tomorrow! Thanks!

I love the Adam Hall "Quiller" books.
Quiller is a spy. They're really excellent books. 2 times in my life I've written to an author care of the publisher. Adam Hall was one of them. It was a "please - MORE, MORE" letter.
I didn't get a reply, but he did write more :-)
I also like The Brother Cadfael books by Ellis Peters. There's always a mystery that he solves.
:-)
Kath
PS - I also LOVED the 3 books by Sandra Gulland about Josephine (as in Napoleon Bonaparte's Josephine). The first is "The Many Lives & Secret Sorrows of Josephine B."
I could hardly put them down. The second is "Tales of Passion, Tales of Woe"" & I can't remember exactly the name of the last. Something about 'the last great dance'.
This is the end of the thread.
