I don't have powerpoint on my home computer, so I can't experiment, but couldn't you open the pdf file, then do a "save as" to save it as a powerpoint document, then open the powerpoint version and print it?

Do you have an option "Open with" or "Open using", something like that?

I really don't know how easily a pdf file could be converted to powerpoint, because of the way each document is formatted, including paras, bullets, pagination, etc. If the pdf file isn't too long, perhaps you can open a new powerpoint file and cut and paste from the pdf file.

I'll keep thinking to see if I can think of something. It is so much easier for me to find a solution when I have the programs and can fool around to see what works.

I think ive done it at school, I could be wrong that it was pdf though. But all I want to do is print it from powerpoint so I can adjust the layout options.
Is this impossible?

I feel like Ive done it before, but maybe Im wrong :(
they are really long and when I thought I had it, it then said that the text was too large so Im not sure whats going on.
Its not that big a deal I guess, I was just trying to save a tree :-) I can cut the amount of paper in half if I can open it in PPoint.

thanks for your help

I may be wrong, but it seems that it is easy to convert a powerpoint or other type of document to a pdf file, but converting a pdf file to something like powerpoint may require a program to do the conversion. But, as I said, when I can't actually try it or do it, I am not that great at giving instruction. Sorry.

I'm really confused by your question, to tell the truth.

.pdf (portable document format) files are Adobe files, whereas .ppt are Microsoft files, specific to Powerpoint. I've taken text from .pdf files using the snapshot (text as image) or text-select (text as ASCII), and pasted it into various Microsoft products (including Powerpoint), or saved the images as .jpg (text images also) and manipulated those in e.g. Paint to shrink them or crop them. But you can't open a .pdf in any Microsoft product that I know of.

If you select the text using Adobe Reader (the free version of Adobe Acrobat), you can paste that into any Windows compatible or Mac compatible writing program.....change the formatting (margins, headers, footers), font size, etc.

As an image, you can shrink a page by 50%, and print two side-by-side using a landscape print. You need a little expertise to pull this one off without a lot of effort, though.

Both save lots of paper.

Now...
I know jack diddly squat about computers, but I'll have a go...

I thought the point of PDF files is that for the most part they are READ ONLY. That means other people can read your PDF file but they can't easily get it into something where they can make changes to it and pass it off as their own work.

Not that I thought that was what you were going to do with it... But you see you *could* do that with it if you could get it into ppt. and make changes to it... I think that is the general idea of why you want to put something in PDF format rather than HTML which is copy and pasteable into word.

So...

Apparantly
(I'm getting a vague ringing of bells so my officemate must have said something to me about this...)

What you need isn't just the
Adobe Acrobat Reader
Which only *reads* PDF files...
You would be wanting the
Adobe Acrobat Writer
Or maybe it is the
Adobe Acrobat Reader / Writer
WHich is fairly expensive apparantly...
But that is because it would make most peoples life a hell of a lot easier if one could cut and paste and copy and edit other peoples PDF documents

:-)

Can you highlight / select txt on a PDF document?

If so...
Then I guess my theory can't be right after all...
Hmm

I thought the little hand-grabber wouldn't let you...

In Adobe Reader 7.0, the little hand is next to a "Select Tool" which is next to the camera symbol "Snapshot Tool".

The Select Tool lets you highlight and copy text to your clipboard. You can paste it into Word or Notepad or whatever. The Snapshot gizmo treats the text or image you've selected as a bitmap, but if you open it in Paint, you can save it as a .jpg if you want. You can also paste the image into Word, but you can't manipulate it as text.
