Does anyone know why, when I send out an e-mail with a graphic in it, that the receivers get only a blank picture. I'll get jokes and things with pictures in them and I try to forward them but the people I send them to complain that they're getting blank messages. Actually, I think they get that little box that indicates that a graphic was there originally.
Does this have something to do with my browser privacy settings and/or is it their settings that are the problem? When I open my sent message it doesn't show the graphic either - just that little box again. It's so frustrating!

Kara,I think it has to do with your settings but I'm not sure which ones exactly. I think that harmful stuff can be in those files, so the default setting may prevent viewing them - especially with XP.
You may be right that it's your security setting. You may not be allowing certain files. Other ideas is that it's a setting in whatever handles your email, like Outlook Express - options or tools - or in the advanced settings of your browser.
In Outlook, look under Tools, then Options, then Security. You should see a box that, if checked, won't allow attachments to be opened. Uncheck that and press Apply.
Just remember any changes you make, so you can reverse them if need be.
Hope that helps. I'm still finding my way around the computer myself.

Verne,I went in to Outlook Security and that box not allowing attachments to be opened wasn't checked. I tried checking off "Internet Zones' instead of "Restricted Zones" but that didn't help. I changed the security settings from Explorer (which are for all of windows?) to accepting all cookies but that didn't work either. I even restarted my PC to make sure that all of the setting changes were in effect. I still suspect it's a security issue but I just can't figure it out. It's so wierd to me that I get the graphics coming in but I just can't send them out. You'd think it would be the other way around... It's so frustrating. GRRRRRR!
Thanks for your help,
Kara

Kara,
I have a friend who runs a graphic design/advertising business and will ask him. He is constantly exchanging graphic files with clients and has become quite the computer wiz over the years.
Do you have anti-virus ware? Dr. Solomon's Anti-Virus Deluxe NetGuard and Norton AntiVirus 2000, to name a couple, can interfere with sending and receiving messages.

> verneThanks so much!!! I bet you're right about Norton. I just recently downloaded AVG Anti-Virus software. I was going to delete Norton anyway so maybe I'll try that. Of course, AVG could end up doing the same thing. I'd definitely be interested in hearing what your friend has to say.
BTW, I just finished reading your mid-life crisis post. You're always so entertaining. I am the same way - always putting life on hold for one reason or another. I haven't read any of the responses yet so forgive me if what I say is redundant. If you are not functioning well now and possible rejection might be more than you could stand, then don't contact her yet. If, however, you are waiting to achieve a perfect state, then stop it and contact her. Many women would appreciate your wit and intelligence. If she's available and looking for the perfect appearance or lots of money, then perhaps she's not good enough for YOU.

Kara,
My friend didn't have much to add. He thought, perhaps, it could be the ISP at your end or the other end. He said they can sometimes "strip" graphic files from messages.
I'm not sure he gave the problem has full attention. He's very motivated when "his" system crashes but he acts like a distracted muse when its someone else's problem. Gee, I'm mean.
Actually, he's saved my bacon on several occasions (ocassions?). Does anyone else have trouble spelling "occasion"? I sometimes spell it with two c's, two s's or both. Sometimes I avoid the word and just say "frequently".

I know it's on my end because people send me things and I get them but when I forward them out to others, no one gets them. Thanks for asking your friend.
I frequently change words so I don't have to deal with the spelling issue. Just can't be bothered.
This is the end of the thread.
