Has anyone seen the new movie SEABISCUIT with Tobey McGuire? If so, what did you think of it?

What's it about?

I enjoyed it. It was kind of soothing in a way. (nm)

Hi,

I just saw it yesterday. Other than the little kid sitting behind me who carried on a conversation with his parents the ENTIRE movie, it was great.

Great character development. Great, although stereotypically happy ending.

Gives you hope. :-)

I seem to get crankier and crankier and get completely and utterly annoyed with those who talk through the whole movie. If frequent turning around in my seat, doesn't get the message across, I have been known to turn completely around in my seat and say, "Please change your seat or stop talking." that actually does work when it's kids by themselves. Young child with parents...i'd say, "you might not realize this but the conversation is ruining the movie for me. Please explain what's happening to your child after the movie is over." For those individuals whom you know won't care, I go out of the theater and find an usher and let them take care of it. At $9.00 a pop, these days (and not qualifying for the senior rate yet), no one's conversation should waste/ruin our money/movie.

I think someone asked what "Seabiscuit" was. A racehorse who achieves great wins despite a difficult past, a blind in one-eye jockey....

I totally agree about the talking thing!!! It can be so frustrating. I have been in movies where ushers escorted people out who wouldn't be quiet, and it just makes my day.

Someone said to me once that it wasn't until after VCRs became so commonplace that people started really talking in movie theaters - because they were used to being able to talk during movies at home with no one being bothered. I don't know how true that is, as I don't remember much about movies pre-VCRs, but it does seem to have some merit.

For me, it's not just the talkers. Well, mainly it is, but I specifically remember this one movie I went to several years ago (actually, I don't even remember which movie it was, just my experience at the theater) - there was this person behind me who was chewing gum, and it just seemed so annoyingly obnoxious to me. I know that's so ridiculous, but I felt like the gum-chewing was driving me crazy! I remember mentioning it to my friend after the movie, and she was like "oh, I didn't really notice". I guess it's just my "distractability" problem....

Yeah, it probably does have merit. Also, because movies have become so common as well, they aren't the special treat that they used to be and people just don't appreciate going now in the way that people back in the early days of movies did.

But, I'll tell you something else - it does bother me when people talk and talk when watching movies at home. Or tv. I mean, sure, a comment here and there is fine, and of course I do that too, but I get annoyed if people are having some whole conversation. At least at home, you can stop it and watch it later or rewind or whatever.
