Daily. :-) Sometimes there is so much going on in the office that I have to say the number out loud so that I don't forget it before typing...It's the only way a person can concentrate while being interrupted sometimes.. Argh!!
Oh yeah, and I criticise myself out loud when practising my singing. Got that habit from my guitar-playing mother.
I talk to my cat too.
Don't worry. It's normal. :-)

Me too. I get annoyed if there is someone around and they keep going "Pardon me?"
And I have to say "I was talking to MYSELF"
Pets are a nice way to talk to yourself I think : )

> Does anyone else talk to themselves aloud?
I have since childhood, usually when I'm at home, though I've found that I'm not the only one at work or at school who does it -- a lot of people with a lot on their minds have to say things out loud or it gets lost in with all the other stuff. And sometimes it enhances my understanding of what I'm thinking if I hear it out loud.
My mind wanders a lot, so I use talking to myself to focus.
However, I've also found lately that I've started talking out loud in public, like if I'm trying to decide which bus to take, I sometimes say part of my debate out loud and don't realize that it's a little bit crazy until afterwards (I don't mean I yell, it's really a whisper or under my breath, in fact, I don't know if anyone ever hears me because it's not loud at all, just helps if I "hear" only what I need to focus on at that given moment).
But, I don't care if I seem like I'm crazy to strangers, and I can always explain my behavior to my friends (and they usually don't need it) :)
I'm actually looking forward to the time when I'm one of those cuckie old ladies who walks around mumbling to herself and making unsolicited comments to others, though I have about 30 years to go on that one.

Yes, it helps me think out loud to get me through tasks.

> Does anyone else talk to themselves aloud?
Saw an article in Scientific American a year or so ago, where they studied and concluded that "talking to yourself" was an important stage in childhood development Because it is a means for problem solving for humans... when I get harrased at work for talking to myself, I just expalin to my co-workers that I'm not talking to them ... if they deign to ask who I'm talkin to, I tell then, If I was talking to you, you'd know it ... sometimes I use it to externalize my feelings, especially anger, i.e. "venting", for the catharsis.

I don't but maybe I should. I've heard that it can positively aid in your reasoning process.
Well, occasionally I do cuss loudly to myself, but I don't think that counts.

I told off Geraldo Rivera the other night. He was on TV and I was changing my underwear. I may have even pointed my finger at him. I was alone in the room (well, the dog may have been lurking around), does that count? Hmmmm, it's kind of like "if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there . . . "
To give him a fair chance of making it a two-way conversation I emailed him a few days later to comment on an "apology" of his that I read in a newspaper that I didn't think resembled an apology in the least (I think that's one of my pet peeves - righteous justifications that are loosely packaged as "apologies" - a.k.a. the "I'm sorry, buts" method).
He didn't answer back (not that I was expecting a reply). That said, it was a one-sided conversation and he didn't know it existed, so I'm thinking that yes, I do talk to myself.
I talk to the dog. And sometimes my husband and I both talk "for her" (in the voice we think she would have if she could speak).
Now, I definitely "talk to myself" (and argue with myself) all day long, but not out loud, but sometimes I think I should because when I go to pick up the phone to call someone (or answer the phone) my voice is hoarse from lack of use.
In my opinion talking to one's self is a good thing. Aloud, under your breath, quietly, in your mind, whatever. I guess if one decides to do it in public it can be a bit unnerving for other people, but I actually see (or hear) a lot of that in the area where I live - so I've kind of gotten used to it.

I don't know where it comes from and I'd be embarrassed if anyone other than my closest family and friends ever overheard. :-) My cat loves it because he knows that I use that voice exclusively with him; it's almost like a special form of inter-species communication.
The funny thing is that I have had different voices for different animals in the past...They just kind of grow out of each animal's personality.... It's a part of the owner-pet relationship. Funny, isn't it?

It IS funny! I'm sure our dog knows that "voice" means something special.
My husband really started it and it DOES seem like "her voice" now (LOL - and he thinks HE'S the normal one!)
It usually goes something like "Daddy, you're such a *&%$@, you never take me for walks anymore" or similar "whinings" that we imagine she must internally complain about.
He also christened her with the description of "nervous stinky breath" when we were driving up a winding road and she was braced in the backseat panting the entire way. She NEVER sits down in the car (unless it's stopped) and she has learned to avoid the trauma of a sudden stop by permanently bracing one leg against the seat - as if it's a runner's block.
I've thought about taking her back to the Midwest with me on a driving trip but I know she would stand the entire trip.
Aren't animals fun? They become so humanized.

Btw, since you asked that queston, now I'm noticing just how much I do talk to myself! A lot!
