Anyone else diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis today?
I was just diagnosed -- it could actually explain some of the memory problems I've been having.
Love y'all, goodnight.

Do you know anything else necessary to keeping us healthy with Hashi's?

I don't do anything in particular for it other than take my Synthroid (I missed the -r- last time) & eat my normal pretty healthy diet.
There's various ideas on why someone develops Hashimoto's, not entirely agreed. It's thought to perhaps be an auto-immune reaction but I don't have any other related problems with auto-immunity or any allergies to anything either.
I do know that if you over-eat soy, yams, raw flax seed and/or vegetables in the brassica family (cabbage, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, kale), it can affect your thyroid function somewhat. They all have a certain amount of goitrogens in them which *MAY* affect thyroid functioning. But few of us overeat these vegetables. And it's thought that once you're stablized on hormone replacement, they won't cause problems if not overdoing them.I'm including 2 articles that may answer more for you. Not everything about low thyroid function will apply to all. Even though my thyroid was quite low, I wasn't cold, my skin wasn't dry or flakey, & I could still work with bursts of energy but I was very sleepy & tired, felt sluggish if I wasn't pushing myself, & was very foggy & moods went up & down like crazy.

Well, maybe it's placebo effect, but I feel much better on my higher (almost double) dosage of synthroid than when I was way undertreated. I have more feelings, and my thinking/memory are much clearer.
Did you know thyroid hormone is a neurotransmitter? strange how much it does. . .

Yes, I know it acts *as* a neurotransmitter among other regulatory features of it. One doctor when I first was put on it wanted to keep me at 50 mcg but I felt no difference. He was persuaded by me to raise it to 75 mcg but I only noticed a small improvement. This doctor's happy to keep me at 100 mcg on which I function nicely. Many regular doctors are so afraid to have their patients' TSH readings get below 3 or 4, but many people don't feel good till it reads near 1.

Okay, I practiced using the self-timer and tripod with my camera in order to take a self-portrait. I just developed the contact sheet from the negatives. The camera was slightly lower than my face, and I noticed a distinct 'goitery' bulge under my chin. AAAUGH! It's small, but -- _I_ know it's there!
