Yes I do...I like OLYMPIC style Weightlifting. The snatch and the clean and jerk. REAL
weightlifting, not bodybuilding crap. Id like to get involved in masters level olympic weightlifting if I could ever get healthy again. There is a gym around here that teaches olympic style weightlifting, thats very rare actually as most gyms just do bodybuilder and pumper/toner junk. A few might do powerlifting. None of it is real weightlifting though.

No, Olympic style weightlifting is in the summer olympics. And USA weightlifting sucks...unfortunately the USA hasnt fielded a good OL team since the late sixties. All the good olympic weightlifting is over in Europe...mostly Eastern European countries...former Soviet Union countries like Russia and Ukraine. Greece and China have good teams too.

Its an interesting sport to me, however it will never be a great sport in the USA because its not a spectator sport.

I am enjoying watching the newer sports, like snowboarding in the halfpipe. Wow.

I enjoy the ski jumpers, too. And I must say that the commentary during the jumps was helpful to me because for the first time I understood how they push off the ramp and into the air and how that can make or break a jump.

Usually, I am the one griping about too much talking from the commentators and not enough sports to watch. I still have that complaint. There are too many damn commercials and too much fluff! Bring on the sports. And what is with only showing a couple of hours during the day on weeknends? Couldn't the world of sports have planned ahead and timed the allstar game for after the olympics? And can't we forego a bit of nascar for one weekend or two every FOUR years?

The moguls are pretty amazing, too, though my knees hurt just watching! And I cringe hearing the commentators tell us so-and-so has had 3 knee operations and so-and-so has had six knee operations. Jeez. They must really love what they do! Are there any old mogul skiiers yet? Wonder how their artificial knees are holding up?

Hello Old School,

That gym that teaches weight lifting near you sounds good! Do you do other sports, too, like swimming/running/cardiovascular activities? I find that swimming helps my depression better than most antidepressants. Sometimes it feels as if my antidepressants don't really "kick in" until I've done my laps for the day.

Hi Noa,

I was thinking the same thing about the knees of the mogul skiers! Every time they bend their knees, I feel mine aching sympathetically. Speaking of pain, yesterday and today, one of the Russian figure skaters, who now trains in this country, skated on an ankle that was broken in two spots!! She broke it a week or so ago, and she knew she wouldn't get a medal because she was unable to do some of the jumps, but she said she just couldn't miss the Olympics! As she was skating, I kept thinking, "If only I could overcome my difficulties and my depression the way she goes out there and skates despite her badly broken ankle."
