Just wondering if your body builds up a tolerance for benzos after awhile and they stop working?
Dumb question but it was on my mind and it's very very late at night and i tend to get dumb when I don't sleep.
I hope everyone here is getting their zzz's.

> TinaTina - Usually people will build up a tolerance to the motor side effects of benzos (eg incoordination), but not to the anti-anxiety effects. Many people equate the loss of the motor side effects with the benzo not working, and thus increase the dose. This is the start of the spiral into dependence and possibly addiction. This is why BuSpar is perceived not to work, because it does not have the same motor side effects as benzos.
An occasional increase in dose is usually okay (with your doctor's permission), but always remember to return to your maintenance dose within a day or two.
Yes, some people do get used to their anti-anxiety agents, but I would try some cognitive/behavioral therapies before adding more drugs.
Hope this helps - Cam

Hi Cam, how are ya? I hope you had a great holiday and a very happy new year. All my best hun.
Don't worry about me increasing my dose, I don't intend to do that. Instead I just stop taking them for a few days and then go back to them. It seems to make them work again. Does that make sense or is it just my imagination? Also, my instructions were just to take them when I needed them but I keep reading that I should take them regularly so I just get confused.....Oh well, what else is new?
Thanks for the advice though. I hope you have a great 2001 and my love to you and your family...

Tina - I am having highs and lows now that I am antidepressant-free. I guess I am getting in touch with my feminine side (ha-ha). All-in-all, I can't complain. Besides, in a month I get to meet Greg, IN PERSON! That should be a riot. My wife bought me a trip to SF for Christmas (via saving Air Miles) and Greg has agreed to be our tour guide. (BTW Greg - Patti can't stop talking about the tour of the chocolate factory).
As for taking benzos regularily or as needed. If you are not having anxiety attacks all the time, using them as sleep aids and when the anxiety is bad (ie taking them only when needed) is probably the best way to go. You are doing it the right way.
Talk to you soon - Cam.

I'm impressed that you are going it without meds Cam. I know how hard that is. I've been med-free except for the benzos for 5 months now. I still get depressed but nowhere near what I used to. I'm thrilled that you are getting away for vacation next month. I hope you have a great time.
As to your feminine side---don't get too in touch with it or Patti might change that ticket to a one-way.
Take care
Love

Cam,
Ahhh, now I know the way to Patti's heart..chocolate. If she likes the idea of the chocolate factory, I wonder how she'd feel if I told her that the Jelly Belly factory is just across the bay??? I used to make deliveries there and you walk thru the door and gain 10 lbs.
Let me know if ya'll are going to need a ride from the airport and I'll pick you up. We're really looking forward to your visit!
Peace Bro,

Wow, this sounds so cool! Forget the ADs and weight gain, ya'll are gonna be rolling out of the Chocolate Factor(ies) there!
I know you will all have a great time. Sounds so fun to actually get to meet friends, and have choc. too!
BTW, this is my first visit back in a while. Is that a pic of Ninja Bob on the first page? I like it.

Shar,
My bet is that this is a picture of "Frozen Bob". Having had my connecting flights thru Chicago (in both directions) cancelled due to snow on my trip to Boston, I'd bet the good doctor is freezing his a** off!
Don't worry about missing out on the chocolate dear, I'll score you some of the good stuff and send you a care package!
xxoo,

Greg - I hear that chocolate is suppposed to be an aphrodesiac (he-he). I e-mailed you and would love to have you pick us up, but you have to have either one of those dippy tourist placards on a stick with our name on it or a colored flag.
=^)Looking forward to meeting you guys, this should be fun. - Cam
