Are Michelle Obama's Shoes a Political Statement?

Posted by fayeroe on April 6, 2009, at 11:59:16

If I had not seen all of the articles about Michelle Obama's shoes, I would not have believed that people can get overwrought about the clothing that a person chooses to wear.......I am floored that there is a column in "what do you think of her belt"? One person even wrote a piece with the heading "Michelle Obama has lost her mind" and went on to be extremely snarky about her clothes and shoes.

Don't people have anything else to do? I read the "Michelle O has lost her mind" and was just blown away by the comments that followed. Most attacked the writer as in "have you lost your mind"? The author really got a smackdown (which I felt she deserved) but will she change her tactics? I checked out other articles and she seems to stay the course in her writings......ugh.

Now something that is newsworthy to me is the fact that the coffins of dead soldiers will now be shown if their family allows it. The local paper puts the stories about the deaths back on pages 3 or 4.......I believe that we should be reminded of the sacrifices that have been made in this war.......

I hesitate to say anything about Michelle Obama's clothes, but there we were admiring and commenting on the black dress she wore to (I think) Prague.

It's the same here with women in politics. After the clothes have been dealt with you rip them to shreds any way you can, preferably after a decent humiliation.

They have been pointing out how tall her forehead is! Then someone griped about her belt. One of the famous designers gave the statement that she should use the "top layer" of designers.....not these young and upcoming ones. He dressed Nancy Reagan!!!! Could they be more opposites in style? No.

After I posted this, I researched and read the articles. (too cold to work in yard and the dishes aren't being very aggressive about me washing them)

I've never read such vicious posts and blogs......I would be ashamed to own up to posting something that is so very disrespectful of the office of President. I think people have no shame anymore about criticism public figures.

No filters and no boundaries.

MAN THE GUNS.....SHE ALSO 'TOUCHED' THE QUEEN!!!!!! wHY CAN'T YOU TOUCH THE QUEEN? WHAT IS THAT ABOUT? I'M GOING TO TELL PEOPLE THAT THEY CAN'T TOUCH ME~!

They're never going to say anything good about her, and for all I know that overwhelmingly positive opinion of the Obamas the rest of the world holds just makes things worse.
(I assume these people are not part of the 10% of Americans who believe Obama is a Muslim.)

Paul Keating touched the Queen too. The tabloid press went ballistic, because he was a Catholic and Labor as well, no class etc etc.

I am definitely going to take up the "don't touch me" mantle.....I have a black velvet cape that has padded shoulders and lots of silver sequins and trim on top of the padded shoulders. If we were drunk/stoned enough, we could draw a military association from the cape. I will wear it every day now and if anyone in this small town touches me.....I shall sic People Magazine on them and stand back and watch the dust and feathers fly!
