It is known that I was not a supporter of our president elect; however, he will be our president. The Washington Post's ombudsman admitted that the paper's coverage was strongly skewed in favor of Obama and against John McCain. I guess I am old fashion and believe in conservative values for the good of future generations. This is not about color, but about what do we want for our children? I am definately pro life, against gays marrying, and I believe in opportunity for all American if they have the passion. I believe in accountability and taking responsibility. I believe the unborn baby should have the choice of life.
I pray that the liberal media will report the facts as they have with our current president. I pray that we critique his presidency the way President Bush's presidency has. Bush has done many things wrong, but he has done things right for the good of our country.
It amazes me how our country elected someone with Obama's history.
God Bless America!

I'm sure the liberal media (e.g. The Nation) will do a fine job of just that. It's the corporate media we need to worry about...
I'd prefer the corporate media go with the truth this time around, rather than, for instance, uncritically parroting scare stories to help stampede a nation to war. Of course, I think it will help that the president-elect is less likely to start a war.
> It amazes me how our country elected someone with Obama's history.
Me too! What a beautiful thing! I'm glad you too can appreciate this historic moment, when a minority raised by a single mom studied hard, earned a top position at Harvard law school, served his community and rose meteorically to the highest office in the land!

I am eternally grateful for President-Elect Obama's history and I celebrate it!

I'm pro life too, and so I worry about the million dead (and 3 million displaced) in Iraq, even though they are clearly from the third world, albeit in an oil producing region.

Before he broke the record for deficit spending, as Governor our Pro-life president smashed the record for executions, over 150 men and women including at least two mentally retarded crimnals. Thou shalt not kill - how succinct can that be, Pat?

Well, yes.
And why is that not an overwhelming contradiction?
We need the theatre?
We all have strength enough to endure the misfortunes of others?

It just baffles me that so many cannot see the Emperor without his clothes.

My guess it's because he has 'good values' (as he said about John Howard).
But that just shifts the question to what good values are.

Why, for example, did Europeans have better values when they took over the world and brought misery to so many?
Because they were self-evidently better and more civilised, and in this sense they were saving the countries they appropriated from the depradations of their less worthy inhabitants, who did not 'mix their labours with the land' (Locke).
Kinda like the view that the invasion of Iraq was God's work.

For me, off the top of my head...
compassion
kindness
honesty
humility
tolerance
generosity
fairness
...would top my list;power
conformity
revenge
prosperity
pride
subservience
paternity
...would be at the bottom.

That is why the election of Obama has caused quite unprecedented delight throughout the world.

If America has something so very special about it, why would you let the free market loose on it?
My father supported Goldwater, and my mother was even more socially conservative, and yet both of them, because they remembered the Depression, would have been appalled by the unwisdom of the income disparity of the last 30 years. Those members of the services who stormed the beaches at Normandy would have been appalled too. They did not fight the war for this sort of world.
Now the American people are having to face the consequences through the socialisation of the losses.
There are 7,000,000 Americans who live abroad. Some because of their employment, but more, I would guess, out of choice. Many live here. I know at least 10.

places to visit. Love the people, love the food and the coasts.
