What I heard was that a bank called "Indie" bank; which is one of the largest mortgage banks in the Country is closing. This can't be good.

Your deposits are insured, if you have your money at a bank covered by the FDIC. Which is most of them.

http://www.inman.com/news/2008/07/11/feds-close-down-indymac-bank
"The FDIC said it will transfer insured deposits and "substantially all the assets" of IndyMac Bank, to a newly created successor, IndyMac Federal Bank, which will be operated by the FDIC.
Insured depositors and borrowers will automatically become customers of IndyMac Federal, FSB and will continue to have uninterrupted customer service and access to their funds by ATM, debit cards and writing checks. Depositors of IndyMac Federal Bank FSB will have no access to online and phone banking services this weekend, but will regain access to them on Monday."

Aren't these those refinancing banks that refinance your mortgage and let you borrow 125% of the equity? It is no wonder to me, I think Country Wide was one of them.
They offered people with bad credit to borrow against their equality. Then made a killing on fee's but when people started to go bankrupt, the banks lost huge because they couldn't sell the properties for what money the had invested in including court costs. It is no surprise to me.

It's kinda refreshing to see the real world make an appearance after the last decade.
It will have nothing kind to say to us, but after Tony's "I only know what I believe to be right", I'd feel kindly about a comet.

It starts with de-regulation, then the banks get to tell US what WE have to pay when we want to withdraw OUR money. Investors, stockbrokers, money-managers, just one MASSIVE plethora of sick capitalist greed and decadence.
Don't get me wrong. Controlled, regulated capitalism with a 'human face' works very well, but this is far-right wing neo-con kill-or-be-killed capitalism. Sick.Jay

Hi Jay now from some e-mails I've sent California seems to be the worst and the mortgage banks leant money to people who couldn't afford what they bought and the banks were uninsured. An old poster here had a morgage company there and it's now closed down. Love Phillipa he doing good though. No depession. May get into radio announcing as he's experienced in that.
