Adolf Hitler - Georgh Bush

Posted by sdb on May 28, 2006, at 11:42:29

It is clear that Adolf Hitler and Georgh W. Bush are not the same person. But how they are acting is very similar. There is only a difference in the body count so far. But everywhere something like that can happen. It is "normal".

Actually I am not interested in politics. Because a neighbour and some other persons I know who live all in the old countries of the "west" were directly affected by the second world war and furthermore some other people from other wars in the east I had to write this. Point final.

The Bush Hitler Thing

Posted by Declan on May 31, 2006, at 0:23:41

In reply to godwins » sdb, posted by zazenduck on May 30, 2006, at 15:03:10

Everyone will be sceptical, but I put this forward in a dispassionate spirit.

The comparison is this. Hitler ended German power. I think we will look back on the Bush Presidency as a kind of apogee of US power. It won't end it, of course. I hasten to say this is not an original idea (Please don't blame me).

I'm aware that in the past I've adressed US citizens here in an accusatory spirit, as if they were responsible for various wrongs. I have mixed feelings about this. We are responsible in part for the rights and wrongs of our country, surely.

OTOH my doing so is rude and somehow (how?) presumptuous.

Sorry to keep this thread going.

Please respect the views of others (such as supporters of Bush) and be sensitive to their feelings.

But please don't take this personally, this doesn't mean I don't like you or think you're bad people.

If you or others have questions about this or about posting policies in general, or are interested in alternative ways of expressing yourself, please first see the FAQ:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#enforce

Follow-ups regarding these issues should be redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration. They, as well as replies to the above posts, should of course themselves be civil.

Thanks,

Bob

I respect the view of other people and I try to be sensitive to the feelings of other individuals. Nobody is errorless. I am not and you are not.

How you are arguing here is very far away from reality and objectivity. As a doctor you should know that diminish physical and emotional pain is a priority and you should be aware that there are maybe different measurements of values for example if somebody lives in a isolated, closed vesica without any windows painted with pink walls and a big TV flat screen watching CNN or individuals living with absolutely nomore perspective in total
awareness of normal human extrem cruelty. Treatment resistent forever. There are innocent, tortured, harmed people from Abu Ghuraib and Guantanamo or children maybe walking somehow with the help of prosthesis of German and Italian doctors with one leg or no legs anymore because of mines and bombs in Afghanistan. Tell to these people that they should be sensitive to the feelings of G.W. Bush and some other people of this government. Do you walk with one leg, Bob? -Walking with one leg is pain. Personally I was not able to walk even with my both legs but I dont complain and I dont want any compassion (!) Because you feel that much sensitive please tell these people mentioned above and other tortured people on the entire world that they must be sensitive to George W. Bush's feelings and his supporters. Politic is a word. Has politics anything to do with civility? What should I tell a doctor with Iranian name living in the country where I come from wanting to visit a burial of a family member in the US but then captured at the airport, keep imprisoned in a single small chamber and then sent back at home with no excuse? At the same time I feel connected with US families who lost their young son or their daughter in these wars. Pain does not depend on countries flags. Do you understand what I try to point out? Without war there is no freedom. I dont believe what people want to believe. I believe what I see with my limited but intact afferent sense organs.

greetings of civility

Thanks for the hint. I just laugh about about that text. Law is relative. There is no guiltiness nor there is evil or good. There are only suffering people. A. Hitler was a patient damaged and influenced by world war one and afterwards diagnosed as a hysterical person. And yes I totally agree...<He is neither unique nor the first of his kind with respect to them> and the following text speaks for itself:

"From a philosophical standpoint, Godwin's Law could be said to exclude normative (ethical) considerations from a positivist (scientific) discussion. Frequently, a reference to Hitler is used as an evocation of evil. Thus a discussion proceeding on a positivist examination of facts is considered terminated when this objective consideration is transformed into a normative discussion of subjective right and wrong. It is exacerbated by the frequent fallacy of "Hitler did A, therefore A is evil" (Reductio ad Hitlerum). However, as noted, the exceptions to Godwin's Law include the invocation of the Hitler comparison in a positivist manner that does not have a normative dimension.

In a class that will see a good deal of discussion, citing this law early in the course can have a good deal of pedagogical value.

Many people incorrectly say Godwin's Law has been "violated" rather than "invoked." [1][2] Godwin's Law can only be violated by an infinitely long thread that never mentions Hitler or the Nazis.

The practical consequence of invoking or respecting the validity of so-called "Godwin's law" is that no such comparison is ever allowed, no matter how justified it may be. In any honest and open debate, one party may not preėmptorily reject another's argument without regard for its validity. Thus, the correct way to oppose comparisons to Hitler is to show that they are invalid rather than to reject them out of hand. As a historical figure, Hitler is representative of a whole class of authoritarian or totalitarian behavior. He is neither unique nor the first of his kind with respect to them. This suggests that Hitler cannot be automatically rejected for purposes of comparison where valid."

Thanks for redirecting that to another place and not to nowhere if you're thinking its appropriate. I am not a politician. I do not want to be personal and I dont want to act irrational or even harm people.

This is really an Admin question, but since we are here.....what about supporters of John Howard?
I'm *fairly* sure that there are none here. But is that the point?
Maybe we should act *as if* they were here.
You might have the same problem with President Bush before too long.
I notice from the papers that John Howard is looking more and more like the Penguin from Batman.
