Niacin and hallucinations

Has anyone had any experience with megadoses of niacin/niacinamide for hallucinations?
I've read some good stuff about it.

Niacin was found to have antipsychotic effects around 50 years ago and is used by orthomolecular doctors for the treatment of schizophrenia where hallucinations are common. It is usually taken as one of a list of nutients. You can buy the book Orthomolecular Treatment for Schizophrenia by A Hoffer MD from www.amazon.com for $4. I have some further details on this subject on my site www.omega3.20megsfree.com

Yep -

I used to get regular hallucinations at night, which were then made worse by taking 5-htp. Started taking niacinamide and they immediately went away.
Am still fiddling around with dosage, but do not go above 1,500mg niacinamide. You can take dosages of 500mg for anxiety. Works subtley but definitely does something.

Any experience with different types of niacins? I know that niacin causes flushing, niacinamide less so and niacin-hexainositol is no-flush. However, I've read that straight flushy niacin is the best for mood disorders.

Right - that's what I've read also; in addition to being less of a threat (niacin) to the liver in high doses. However I tried just 100mg of niacin and got a very bad flush which I didn't enjoy at all (I just look like a crab). So I prefer the niacinamide, although I never go above 1,500mg a day because of the liver issue. I don't know how I'd react with larger doses of niacin, probably really bad flushing.
