For me, here is what the adm board does..

Posted by fayeroe on December 6, 2008, at 17:56:26

I realize why I try to stay at Politics most of the time.

This board rarely solves any of our problems. Oh yes, we can come here and type and type and type and say all of these extremely well thought out posts and what happens?

We post more and more of these fantastic thought out posts and nothing happens.

Dinah adds as much as she can (cause I think Bob is unfair to her and doesn't help her out) and she probably starts staring at her wall and wishing that she could just pound her head on it when things turn sour.

Maybe, Dinah, your thoughts don't run that direction but mine sure do. Though, right now, I'd turn loose one of the Angus bulls that I've been helping my friend with and watch Bob ignore that problem. (Angus are little fighters....)

So, my solution is that I'm not coming back to this board except to read. Too much fodder here for Bob..

Thanks, Dinah

Thank you, Faye. All the deputies do their best in the face of a lot of frustration at times.

I tend to perhaps err on the side of too much transparency and explanation, since I appreciate the frustrations of dealing with Dr. Bob's more blank slate style.

But for all that, I wish things could go back to the way they were, with Bob doing more hands on board administering.

I think you (deputies) are in an almost impossible position because you seem, in effect, to be asked to administer things as if he were doing it himself - but you are not him. Just because Dr. Bob wishes that the boards could be administered as if he were doing it himself, without actually doing it himself, does not make it possible.

*Oh well said! Smart!
Plus, if it were me deputizing, I would want my input to actually be LISTENED to and seriously taken.
I have some doubt as to whether it is.
Mebbe we oughtta call them saints! rofl, cuz them deps gotta have the patience of one!!!!
Bless you guys for trying.
Flapping my gums....

Well, it wouldn't be fair of me not to admit that I like it that way. Yes, of course I would like Dr. Bob to be so impressed with my arguments that he slaps his head and says "Oh my goodness. You're completely right!". And that pretty much never happens. Sometimes I can sway him enough for incremental change. Sometimes.

But you know, sometimes I might fight something a lot, only to find that Dr. Bob might be at least partially right. And that maybe I need to be swayed myself.

The thing is that it is totally against my nature to want to moderate a board like this. I'm ok with being Dr. Bob's deputy, and carrying out his wishes. I wouldn't be ok with the responsibility of doing more than trying to influence him to come to my point of view.

Certainly it's hard. Particularly since he's been gone so much, and even more when deputy duties expand past where I wish them to expand. I signed up in a different age of deputies.

The hard part is feeling obliged to do more than I wish to do. Not having more power than I have is perfectly ok with me.

My goodness. As I write this I realize how similar this is to how I feel about my job. :) Oh my.

I know other deputies have different challenges, and I'm only speaking for me.
