Love the new look Bob but where are the statistics? I need to know the number of posters in order to compute my block.
Since I got 3 weeks for asking you if you had any hobbies besides Babble I believe that should be multiplied by the total number of Babblers to get my new block since I have asked them all the same question.
For Example if there are 8000 registered Babblers I would get 3 x 8000 weeks for asking everyone. This would be 24000 weeks which would be doubled twice as per your formula. This would be 96 000 weeks.
Please do not insult me by offering a board specific block. As if I would ever desert our admin board.
Where are the deputy girls when you need them?
Come and get me gals!!! I'll go peaceful :)

I have sent a message to the administrators confessing to asking about the hobbies of others.
I am ready to pay my debt to society. The countdown begins.

For what it's worth, I personally don't think she should have been blocked. Firstly, she quoted somebody else, and secondly, she immediately indicated her disagreement with what that person had said.

Something about knowing what the rules are and knowingly breaking them, then waiting for and expecting the punishment to follow. Why do you think someone does that? I'm curious, because I'm a compulsive rule-follower. Ever since I was wrongly ticketed for jay-walking as a teenager, I've been hyper-vigilant about being aware of what the rules are, whether or not I agree with them. And I usually go out of my way to let others know when they're breaking the rules.CS

I think her reference to being blocked was in response to her question about having hobbies outside of Psycho-Babble. Previously, Dr Bob got upset when it was asked of him whether he had hobbies besides running Psycho-Babble. So she mentioned that, if there were say 8000 posters, then her question about hobbies could be construed as 8000 separate acts of incivility - one incivility for each of these 8000 posters who might have been offended by her question. I interpreted it as a tongue-in-cheek statement.

I'm not sure she did knowingly break the rules. I think her posts about being imminently blocked were a mocking reference to her question about hobbies.
All I'm saying is that her offence - if what she did even is an offence - was bona fide, not mala fide, and 11 weeks seems a bit steep to me.

It could be perceived as petty, vengeful, and retalitory.

I guess people break rules for a myriad of reasons. I have a relative (she has spent some time in prison, incidentally) who will break pretty much any rule that isn't convenient for her at the moment. In her case, I think she lacks maturity and any concept of how we often must do things for the "greater good," even when we'd rather not.
Then, there are people who break the rules because they're bad rules. Rosa Parks is one brave soul who comes to mind. I am not a brave soul. I'm one who'll follow the "bad" rules for fear of what might happen if I don't. Sometimes I wish I were different....a trailblazer or some such. It just isn't in my nature, though.
Of course, I'm sure there are other reasons people knowingly break rules. These are just a couple that came to my mind when I read your question. I'm glad you asked it! Anyone else have ideas?

I was a bit surprised myself, although I certainly recognize that two reasonable people can read a post differently. I don't really understand how it's possible to bring up such things for discussion if the original statement isn't quoted or paraphrased or linked. The only other way is to make vague references to it, and leave people to google it.
My own belief is if something isn't really clearly a violation of board policy, it would lead posters to feeling safer in general if it were explained in a PBC rather than resulting directly in a block the first time. I'm not theoretically opposed to blocks, even longer ones, but I think the long ones especially should be reserved for when a poster has reason to suspect that their post might result in a block.
JMHO. Thinking how upset I'd be if a post I thought was innocent resulted in a block.
This is the end of the thread.
