Head injuries are traumatic, and because you look
the same in some cases, others don't understand
just how sick you are. I feel as if I have been
given a new lease on life after this one. The
last one, which I believe could have been
prevented was devastating. I hope you or anyone
else never have one. I can't believe that
athletes like hockey starts are sometimes sent
into the rink after post concussion. Good drs.
avoid that because second hits have high cumulative neurological damage probability.
Anyway, your joke is ok now for me, but two weeks
ago i would not have been able to read it as i was
flat on back.Squiggles

Larry,
You said something in an attempt in humor. We've all done that. Someone objected. Sometimes people react in a way we didn't think of. You apologized. They accepted (pre-apology, but still)...It's okay. I don't think anyone here thinks you are insensitive by nature.
I don't mean to mimimize any distress you might be feeling, because I know this is sore subject for you. But it's a blip compared to the vast wealth of wonderful, knowledgable, and supportive posts you've contributed.
Please stay.

Hey, this is just a joke.
There's no actual problem, just an anticipated one.
It's OK, isn't it?

But that's what I meant Squiggles. You *didn't* take offence (nor anyone else). I don't have a problem with the civility rules. I was not implying any criticism of them, or Dr Bob. Maybe if I had a brain injury??? I wish I could remember the name of that US comedian and the terrific book he wrote, paralysed from the neck down, some of the things he said....

It's over, you've apologized, Dr. Bob has accepted.
I do understand it's upsetting. I'm not trying to say it isn't.
But I miss you when you're not here.

There is precedent for the post Larry made.
In fact he posted the same thing 14 months ago, with nobody giving any PBC, or even taking offense.

It's months since it happened and I still can't talk about it. A PBC for something that didn't matter before. Lying in wait. Rules made up whose strict enforcement is more important than their being understood or even described. No guidance. It is not safe. I am not okay. Seeking traction. Finding quicksand.

I can understand how that could put the joke in a different light.

Larry, I agree about the quicksand. I'm usually doing a swampcrawl (cross between a sidestroke and a mudskipper flop) for firmer ground, while at the same time, gymnastically keeping one foot in my mouth.
The value of Babble is a juggling act for me. I have to balance getting help and helping others without hurting myself in the process. At times, I don't think it's helping me, at others, I'm hanging around trying to help others. But I need to leave when it starts doing more harm than good.
In the end, I have difficulty translating any support I receive in the cyberworld to the real world. This may be a defect on my part. I don't feel the warmth and companionship others seem to derive from online relationships.
I'm baffled by all the expressions of undying love and affection between people who've never met. As isolated as I am in real life, I should welcome any sort of social interaction yet I often disconnect from the internet feeling empty and unfulfilled. Although I do appreciate the help I've received.
I guess I've rambled off on a few goat trails one usually finds near a pit of quicksand - tracks left by animals doing the we-aren't-in-the-tarpit-or-fossil-record celebratory dance.
Rule One should be to take care of ourselves so we are better able to help others. (rule 2)

"I'm baffled by all the expressions of undying love and affection between people who've never met."
One of the fascinating things about making friends online, is that you really get to knows someone *insides", their brain and heart.. It is really quite easy to fall in love with someones "soul" online.. Someo f the deepest friendships I have are online, and though most of those I have met in real life now, they were still close friends to me before I met them.
I also met my husband, 8 years ago, in a chat room.. We simply got chatting one day and really hit it off, so chatted more and more.. before moving to phone, and finally meeting in real life. As much as I denied it all, I was *completely* in love with him before we met, and he with me, as we had clicked on a much deeper level than we probably would have done had we met in, say, a night club.
I've bene online a long time, and it took a good few years before I could begin to understand it.. But, like I say, it really is possible to build a really close friendship without having ever met face to face.

I heard that at the PB birthday party, too, posters were meeting for the first time (in person), but they were already friends! :-)

As for Larry's plight, I remain perplexed at Babble justice in whicn a parking violator can recieve the same or worse punishment than a molester or an assasin.

Where was the PB Birthday party?
If you ever have another one, would you consider Toronto?
Selfish me - It'd be somewhere I could get to!
