Don't know if you had time to look through the threads enough to see... it was all a joke? Rainbowbrite was referring to herself....and wanting to be voluntarily blocked...?
Or do you already know that, and still question if it was neighborly?
Just wondering.

Maybe I'm just not enough of an insider to be keen on inside jokes.
Anyway, this isn't a "complaint" addressed to administration under the three complaint rule, it is a contemplation over whether such discourse is neighborly - in and of itself without extensive surfing into potentially more course writing referenced in the post. If I appear in my front lawn, talking loudly about evicting some scum scoundrel from the neighborhood, would the fact that I might be talking about myself make my behavior any more becoming for my neighbors?

well I guess i think of this as neighborly in the sense that i feel i know alot of people here so they knew the joke. And it was not an inside joke, I was very open about it. Anyway 'so', (what does that stand for?...is it so and in so what or??) GO for it!! Take it where ever you want to! I tried to be uncivil and I had a hard time with it....Maybe your smarter than me, HA no I think you are...and you CAN get me blocked!
BTW Is it neighborly to challenge a person who isnt feeling very well? Just curious?btw thanks 10derheart..

I think so, I think it would make them all smile/laugh as opposed to worry that there was someone really bothering you :-)

I think so too, it would be different if it happened every other day.

Hello So
So, so, If you put yourself in the shoes of someone who just arrived at this site and read the word bitch, I would think the person would read through the previous posts to see why the person came to the conclusion of them saying the word "bitch"..then they would have the insight to see it was all a joke and there was humour here among the pain and suffering here also.. And if they didn't know it was all a joke, well like you said yourself..nevermind what they might have read.
At least from those posts onwards the admin board brighten up quite abit and was quite a cheerful place from the result of that post, I think thats very good for a new comer to see.
People generally, i thought anyway come to this site via the med boards and work there way round from there anyway.
I see what your saying about appearing on your front lawn. Here people appear before a keyboard and monitor and with this they have the distinct advantage that they can quite literally read between the lines. We are not neighbours...we're complete strangers meeting on the internet when we first come here and from this we can choose to make friends if we wish...from that they kinda become internet neighbours as you've moved into the site so to speak. Not everyone likes moving to the same area and I really can't imagine why a new person would join here to post on the admin board either? In fact has there ever been a new member here that joined and there first post was on admin as this is where they wanted their education and support?..hmmm
Kind regards
Nick

I think the important point is: it wasn't *intended* to be "neighborly." She was trying to get herself blocked.I'm sure that when rain wants to, she can be a model Babblecitizen. (And when she doesn't, yeesh, watch out! (just kidding, rain))

And if they didn't know it was all a joke, well like you said yourself..nevermind what they might have read.Or maybe they would see the title refering to a person -- any person -- as a "psycho" then open the post and read more references to a "bitch" and decide they have no need to read further to find out who is the topic of such connotations. It seems to me indicative that a medically trained administrator is not attuned to the harm being reported by members of the group he organized, even when members post less-than-supportive messages about their own behavior in an effort to protect their own selves from harm they are suffering by participating in the group.
> At least from those posts onwards the admin board brighten up quite abit and was quite a cheerful place from the result of that post, I think thats very good for a new comer to see.Cheerfulness might be your perception. It could be a factor of who had time available to review messages at that time.

My life experience has revealed that neighbors in some areas can't understand why people not like them want to live in their neighborhoods. Some corporate cultures are unable to understand why certain persons would be interested in management jobs otherwise held by people unlike the aspirant. People don't always understand or appreciate the legitimate motives of others.
Or perhaps to offer support and education there. Did you compose that paragraph with a person in mind who joined exactly as you say? If so, then the answer would be "yes".

so, is it a neighborly thing to do to post about another poster and not directly address them? I guess this goes back to the way ive seen some threadsposted about a particular post...they are just put up and the person in question may not even know that someone is questioning it...hmmm...i dont know, personally i think when questioning another person's post, you should DIRECT it to them. Or maybe you dont like direct confrontation? another issue I would like to bring attention to is not responding to the 'person' in question! Is that NEIGHBORLY?
Come on So, wont you be my neighbor??

I must say, I was REALLY alarmed by the post as well, so. However, I realized it must have been a joke since no one was really reacting very seriously about it. I feel quite clueless most of the time about what happens on this particualr board. A few times there have been threads that have almost seemed like inside jokes which completely go over my head.
But rainbow's message actually did frighten me a little. I guess that's why I try to stay off this board, I really have no idea how to handle this place.

> Never mind what I might have read, but if you put yourself in the shoes of someone who just arrived here and found someone refering to anyone as a "b*tch", couldn't it lead to the conclusion that such discourse is typical of this site? That's a good point. I do tend to forget about first-time readers. I shouldn't do that. But perhaps....drawing that conclusion might be like "judging a book by its cover," i.e., many things seem provocative, or even or vulgar or course on the surface, yet when you look further..you find something very different.
> Maybe I'm just not enough of an insider to be keen on inside jokes.
Only way for that to disappear is to spend more time here...a double-edged sword, as Rain was experiencing during the time she wrote her post(s). (I'm not suggesting you spend more or less time here - just saying that once I did that, I've been able to learn to pick up on the vast majority of nuances and habits found in people's posting styles...)
> Anyway, this isn't a "complaint" addressed to administration under the three complaint rule,
I didn't think it was that sort of complaint.

Thanks for explaining more what your post was comtemplating. That's what I was trying to ask.
Not sure if I can equate the Admin board to "your front lawn" - still thinking on that one. But yes - for me, once I knew what and whom you were talking about, I'd probably ignore you and/or be mildly amused. Or possibly try to help, if I could think of a way.

> do you have any spare milk i could have so? Im trying to bake a cake to bring over to my new neighbor, but I used it up in my cereal :-(
I did but it went sour. It seems I was adding some to my coffee when I heard a neighbor in their front lawn, screaming about a psycho and a mother dog. I contacted another neighbor to see what was up, which set into motion a chain of events that led me to forget all about the carton of milk setting on the counter.
After I contacted the neighborhood watch leader, who had been advocating that we all look out for unusual occurances on the street, I got a call back from her husband, who happens to be a police officer. He threatened to charge me with filling a false report. It seemed odd to me, since I had not filed a report at all, but it seems the officer is the nephew of the mayor, and the cousin of the municipal judge, so I figure he can file any kind of charge he wants and my chances of finding justice might be pretty slim.
I'm not sure what was up, but it seems the neighbor who was screaming in the front yard and the neighborhood watch leader play cards together every week. Maybe that gained that neighbor some favor with the husband on the police force.
So while all of this was going on, I forgot all about the milk out on the counter until after I left the house to participate in some civic activities. When I finally returned to the kitchen, later that evening, the milk had soured.
Good luck with your cake.
