Defamation

Posted by jlo820 on August 22, 2003, at 13:18:07

Dear Dr. Bob:

Within in the confines of the rules of this board and with all due civility, etc., etc....

I personally feel that all this talk about defamation is defaming to me. I feel it is injurious to my ability to continue posting to these boards without being annoyed and bored to death. I think that if I were to smash my computer to bits with a hammer, it would be the direct result of certain posts/posters to this board, thus causing the requisite injury necessary for me to bring legal action.

I am going to contact my lawyer, the Justice Department, the Health and Human Services Department, the Department of Homeland Security, OSHA, my state Attorney Genral, the ADL, the ACLU, PETA (even though this has nothing to do with animals), NOW (even though I am not a woman), the NAACP (even though I am not black), the Anti-Semetic League (even though I am not a Semite), my congressman, and anyone else I can think of to give me some "determinations" on various issues and to see if I am being defamed and if my civil rights are being violated. I also have several good friends that work in the White House (two of them directly for President Bush), so I may ask them to take the matter up with him if he has a few extra minutes. Don't be surprised if the White Hose Counsel's office gets involed here.

In light of this, I think I should be put in complete control of this board and that I should be able to decide who gets to post, the topic(s) on which they get to post, and how often they can post. I think this would be the best alternative to the numerous lawsuits I am considering.

Dr. Bob, if you decide to put me in complete control of the board, I will applaud your winsdom, common sense and good judgement. Should the unspeakable happen and you decide not to give me complete and total control, I really think you should carefully monitor a few select individuals (or if you don't have time, just one individual) who are posting here and see how their posts are leading some of us to have acute psychotic fits because of their blatant disregard for all laws of logic and common sense, thus leading us to do things and say things which are out of charcter for us. I am not naming any names and if anybody accuses me of referring to them, they should not be so paranoid (but if they really think I am talking about, which I probably am, but may not be [you can never be sure, so you should probably assume that I am not....but I might be] then they should think over why I might be talking about them, and consider the reasons why others wish they would dissapear and never post here again), but I digress.

In any event, please consider who is the REAL problem. I realize this is an open forum, and we can all post what we like within the limts you have set, but when a certain individual or individuals continues to be the source of all of the problems, I think some action (maybe a private e-mail...hmmmm, or banishment for life) is in order.

I look forward to your naming me supreme commander and dictator of this board.

With best wishes and kindest regards, I am

Cordially yours,

jlo820

P.S. - If there are any responses to this post which do not agree with me in the entirety, I will consider that defamation and have my lawyer file suit in federal court.

But I really enjoyed our post. Thank you.

I can categorically state that nothing you posted bugged me, as I recall I think I agreed with everything you said. But I should warn you, if you continue to post, there is an off-hand chance that some day in the future you could possibly bug me, then we would have a whole new ball game. ;>

Just in case, I am going to have my lawyer go ahead and send you a cease and desist letter, just so you can have it on hand in case I decide that you have bugged me.

Let's all hope it doesn't reach that point.

jlo 820,
You wrote,[...I feel that talk here about defamation is defaming to me...].
Is this sometype of sarcastic comment?
You wrote, [...one individual...whose posts disregard laws of logic and common sense...].
Are you saying that I am that one individual that writes posts that are not logical or have common sense? If so, what made you accuse me of that, for I belive that my posts are relevant to the discussion and Simcha has posted that my posts do not fall into any such catagory that you are describing here.

Dearest Lou,

1. What is sarcasm, I mean really? I may need to get a determination on that.

2. Like I said in my original message, which I hope you read very very carefully, I am not going to name any names here. If, for whatever reason(s), you feel that I was referring to you, then you might want to consider why you feel that way...could there be valid reasons?. But I could have been referring to anybody.

3. I encourage everyone (well, most everyone) to post germane, logical, and well thought out posts whenever they like, unless of course Dr. Bob gives me control and I banish them for life.

God bless you, Lou.

Dinah -

I may consider this defamation, I will have to think it over.

I don't think it is wrong just to ask Dr. Bob to monitor people who are causing problems. Who knows, I may be one of those people.

I think I was more than civil.

I am sorry, but I DON'T respect the views of some posters here. I do however respect their right to post those views, in most cases. I think that is more important.

Also, just so you are not worried, if I do get control of the board from Dr. Bob, I will not banish you for life, even though you warned me.

jlo820

P.S. - I am having too much fun, I need a nap.

If certain boards, or threads, or posters, make you annoyed or bored or lead you to have acute psychotic fits, maybe it would be a good idea to steer clear of them?

I can't put my finger on just what it is about it, but I like your sense of humour.

I have long been accused of lacking a sense of humor Lar, so if you ever put your finger on it, could you maybe explain it to me?

Lou very clearly expressed his pain at all the fun and hijinks that have been going on here lately. I find it a little difficult to see humor where pain results. But then, I never get what's so funny about practical jokes either.

I'll reply in two parts.

First, this part. In a general sense of my observing the discussions ongoing here, it just seemed too serious. I don't think anyone's writing would survive the intense scrutiny being offered up in the guise of objectivity, these last few days. Some of what I read has made me very uncomfortable, yet I found myself doing a quick guffaw when I read jlo's post, so I thought I'd mention that.

> Lou very clearly expressed his pain at all the fun and hijinks that have been going on here lately. I find it a little difficult to see humor where pain results. But then, I never get what's so funny about practical jokes either.

I'm deeply troubled by what happened to Lou (the Big Ban), but I'm still at a loss with respect to some of the things with which he took issue. I haven't grasped the nuance, or maybe I've missed some key posts. I don't know. But I'm not finding any humour in his pain. That's not where I'm coming from. Sometimes, in the darkest moments, a dash of humour is like sunbeams breaking through the clouds. It's not that the clouds have gone away, but it certainly changes your perception.

Obviously this is an issue that goes back for a long time (at least two years) by Lou's own admission.

That was way before I was on this board, so I have no idea what the history of the "defamation" is.

I was just enjoying myself amd making light people being so uptight on this board.

Lou got banned because he broke the rules. Same thing happened to Ace and others. I have received several PBCs myself. I don't feel sorry for anybody that is banned or warned, even if I think it is extreme.

Like I said, I don't know the history. But from my interactions with Lou in the past week or so, it is overtly clear that he is the one who brings most of the problems on himself and I do not feel sorry for him.

I am dissapointed that he is banned for 48 weeks, because I found his posts and opinions interesting to say the least, and I enjoyed replying to them even though they were hard to understand, but I am sure he will be back next summer and I look forward to it.

OK, so it's clear where the responsibility lies, at least.

Please be supportive and don't post anything that could lead others to feel accused. You've already been asked to be civil, so I'm going to block you from posting for a week.
