Dr. Bob,
Here's an idea; might work, might not.
Maybe you could carry a "dedicated pager" and give the pager number to a handful of seasoned PB veterans (not me) who could call your pager when incidences break on the board. Then, at your earliest convenience you could attend to the administration of the board. With early intervention a brush fire can be contained and the all consuming raging forest fire can be avoided. One of yesterday’s brush fires burned longer than it should have and continues this morning:

Maybe the PB participants with the pager numbers could specify the time of day that he or she is typically on the board and, thereby, around-the-clock pager patrol could be established.Great, just what you need; another communication device to carry and the PB Pager Patrol (PBPP) "staff" beeping you all hours of the day and night. I guess you could turn the pager off when needed (you do sleep, right?). Also, you could distribute guidelines to the PBPP staff describing the elements of a PB post that would be egregious enough to warrant a call to the pager. When a town turns into a city more patrol cars are typically required:

Maybe we could discuss these guidelines as much as we've discussed the various permutations of the definition of "civility."" When a town turns into a city more patrol cars are typically required"
Probably a pretty apt analogy. Maybe this is like 911 where quicker intervention is required.Mair

I like that idea and would gladly volunteer for that duty. But maybe Dr. Bob likes to forget about this place for a while.
He has in the past asked for volunteers to help him out when he is gone. I'm not constitutionally suited to that, but perhaps some of you more hardy, yet patient, types would like to help out.

Isn't that a bit much to ask of a Dr Bob, considering he offers all this for free ?

I believe he knows everything that's happening on the boards at all times. Sometimes he chooses to react in a yin way, sometimes yang. Lately it's been more yin. Except when he blocked a few people the other day--that was yang.

Hi Oracle,
> Isn't that a bit much to ask of a Dr Bob, considering he offers all this for free ?
Actually, what I had in mind was something that would reduce Dr. Bob's work load, not increase it. As I understand it, Dr. Bob currently checks the board several times a day and scans all of the incoming posts personally. He then responds to those that require his input. The idea presented above might reduce or eliminate the need for him to scan all incoming posts and, thereby, reduce his work load associated with the administration of this site.
Further, instead of a dedicated pager, a cell phone with internet access would work even better and not require him to carry an additional telecommunication device. The PB Pager Patrol "staff" could use a private e-mail address or maybe some type of instant messaging system to alert Dr. Bob of a post that requires his attention.
In any event, it's just an idea. Might work, might not.
