i certainly hope not. benzodiazepines aren't ideal, but...they're better than many alternatives, especially for as needed use.
as best i can tell around here...there's a lot of variability, from doctor to doctor, from clinic to clinic. some are opposed to benzodiazepines, as a rule. i can see why...tapers can be rough. others are OK, but increasingly xanax is a no go...its lorazepam or clonazepam, all the way.
so...i dunno. i think it also depends on the region of the country you're in...where i live, the family docs are generally anti-benzo, the psychiatrists are OK with it (private practice shrinks). wish i could offer some real, solid answers. :-(

True my pdoc is private and prescribes me both the xanax and valium. But now can't get the 90 day supply as to be done monthly. It's getting scary. Poor cancer patients and those that are elderly are having to take their pain med bottles to their doctors as told to me by a neighbor with severe back issues. They then count out each pill to make sure didn't take more than prescribed. And all this because of illegal addict pill popppers

Right now I have quite a few Rx stashed as cut my own doses down. What I have read on my RN nursing letter than get online daily. Is that doctors are not prescribing them for those that are not on them. Or if they do just enough for a few days.

one it's because of the opiod crisis, they are cracking down on doctors who overly prescribe benzozs and opiates, second alot of doctors ... not sure to say ... but they get uncomfortable with prescribing them because all addiction or depedency. And they don't want to do a risk. It's not all doctors, but most of them .. yes

You have to see another doctor if he does that. It can get really bad ie. seizures etc

i dont think its everywhere. right now, it seems to be in the US...probably in part because benzodiazepine prescribing has gotten kind of out of hand, anyway, and also because of people dying from opioid+benzodiazepine combinations, plus...
pills come into and then fall out of favor. back in the day, the Rx uppers were popular, then the DEA cracked down, now they're popular again. happens, sadly enough.
the rational approach would be to minimize new prescriptions and maintain people already on treatment. that's kind of...assuming psych docs and doctors in general will be rational about the whole thing, which is kind of doubtful.

I posted to the "xanax - whats going on" thread about the benzo situation. (Admittedly my post was rather long and rambling: I get that way when I get started on a rant [sheepish grin].) It probably would have been more appropriate to post to this thread.
Anyway, you might find it of interest if you're concerned about this (and if you don't get bored easily :-) ).
This is the end of the thread.
