AP effect Brintellix

Posted by Horse on August 8, 2015, at 1:25:05

I'm trying to understand what I'm feeling from Brintellix. From what I've read, Brintellix works as an AP. I feel a bit like how I felt on Abilify-- weird. Bracing but not quite pleasant. I told myself I'd not take an AP again for personal reasons...and I find myself here again.

I'm trying to find out how Brintellix is different from other SSRIs.

Brintellix has some serotonergic properties in common with various atypical antipsychotics. However, Brintellix does NOT block dopamine receptors, and is thus not a neuroleptic antipsychotic.

Weird is not necessarily a bad thing at the beginning of treatment. It could mean that something important is happening that will ultimately yield a therapeutic effect. This has been my experience. I would not recommend discontinuing Brintellix based on your short description.

What dosage are you taking now, and what is the tentative target dosage?

Oh. This makes sense. This is exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks!

I'm taking 5 mg and my doc expects 20 mg. Some effect feels like Abilify (which was not a good med for me). Maybe it's a quality of thought or perception or being more awake? And I did lots of housework yesterday, which is odd as well :-)

Thank you for your support Scott.
