Why would MD suggest SNRI for anxiety?

Posted by Prefect on December 10, 2012, at 19:38:24

MD wants to take me off Luvox and put me on Pristiq, an SNRI. Why would a norepinephrin reuptake inhibitor be perscribed for panic disorder and anxiety? Isn't norepinephrin what causes the fight-or-flight reaction?

NARI's have had some sucsess in panic disorder, so a drug that inhibits both seretonin and noradrenalin would be expected to be more effective than one that only inhibits seretonin reuptake.

Give it a try, it might just work!

Another useful way of inhibiting seretonin and noradrenalin is an SSRI such as Zoloft plus nortriptyline
