The Abilify/Lamictal combo

Posted by tensor on April 9, 2012, at 15:10:00

Does anyone have a study that backs this combo? Searching the net I have found that it is commonly used with success. It would be good to have something to bring to my pdoc.

Thanks.

A personal study with a sample size of one (me). I have not done a lit search on this, but I have personally known of others on this combo, so I do not think it is that unusual. It works fairly well for me, by the way.

When I'm doing really well, I take 1.25 mg and 2.5 mg on alternate days. When I start to slide, I go to 2.5 mg every day. I can't go too high without some cognitive effects. But with this drug, a little goes a long way for me.

That's a low dose isn't it? So lamictal and abilify and you are now well? That is super. Phillipa

Hi Tensor.

I responded to your previous thread regarding this combination. Lamictal + Abilify has been a part of my regime for quite a few years. It has made for a good platform upon which to experiment with other treatments. Both drugs turned out to be required for my currently successful treatment. It was my strategy to combine partially helpful drugs with different mechanisms of action rather than to discontinue each one that appeared only partially helpful. It was not my intention to trial each new drug sequentially as monotherapy. I wanted to cover as many polypharmaceutical permutations as quickly as possible. This required me to take more than two at a time. For some reason, a few people here had a disdain for the number of drugs I took without my experiencing a robust therapeutic response. I knew better.

That is exactly what I would like to do, it will save alot of time. I think it's a clever way to go.
