So, I was dx'd BP 2 in the fall. I was on Lithium for a few months but hated it, so my pdoc switched me to Trileptal. I'm currently on Zoloft 75 mg, Trileptal 900 (it was 600, but was raised to 900 a few days ago, as my blood levels were low), and 2 mg Xanax to sleep.
For the last few weeks, I've been having intense waves of anxiety/agitation. My chest gets tight, I can't read, concentrate, have trouble sitting still, feel like my blood is filled with acid.
I feel as if it is med-related, as I can't remember having anything that feels just this way before (though I may be wrong). I am not anxious *about* anything, it just feels like something rises up in me.
Taking a Seroquel works, but is incredibly sedating, so I am trying not to. Taking a Xanax also works, but is relatively sedating--I yawn all the time.
What does this sound like? Is it mania/mixed or anxiety alone? Can it be traced to any meds I am on, or lack thereof?

It would not be unusual for either of your meds to cause the anxious side effects. If zoloft is the guilty one, that should subside over time (weeks) but of course that doesn't help much now and there is no guarantee. Such is the landscape we live in.
I think it would be a worthy option to do some google research on topics such as detox, lyme, and inflammation. Primarily I am thinking of toxins. That's where most of our psych symptoms come from, in my opinion. If you have the wrong genes, your body will have a hard time getting rid of normal everyday toxins such as plastics and metals and petroleums. Normal amounts accumulate to toxic amounts, and when that stuff hits your neurotransmitters and occupies receptor sites, any of the myriad of psych symptoms are likely to result.
I think reliance on meds alone and focus purely on 'depression' or whatever is a flawed approach. I think outcomes and potential successes are enhanced when we deal not only with the symptoms, but the hidden likely culprits behind it all.

In reply to Dude, I think it might be akathisia. (nm), posted by Raisinb on February 10, 2012, at 20:45:55

I agree with Scott that akathisia is unlikely, but whatever it was was definitely caused by something I was taking. It got so bad a few days ago that I couldn't function at all, so I stopped taking everything, and the panic and agitation went away. Not the best idea, I know, but something was going on and I need to isolate it.

You stopped the Xanax, too?

No, sorry, I stopped everything but the Xanax. I've been on xanax for a few years to sleep, same dosage, so I thought it unlikely that was the culprit.
