thank you/update

Posted by floatingbridge on June 28, 2011, at 20:03:19

I think and feel like I have passed through any emergency windows in my situation. My life is small, but today was much better, and I think that will continue. I dressed and drove a short distance. I think the steady worsening of things was the 'invisible', unnoted withdrawal of emsam. That might sound very elementary to anyone here, but there has been alot going on.

A lot of folks here have given me help over the past few months. Thank you (!). If I can ever return that kindness, please
ask.

For now, I do not plan on any medicine
changes until at least a week. That's
when I go to the anxiety disorders clinic at Stanford. If anyone would find an update or babblemail about that place helpful, please do not hesitate to ask.

Glad you are feeling a little better floating.

If I might offer some objective advice. (you can take it or leave it) I think it might be good for you to work with the new cocktail they give you at the clinic and try and be really regimented about timing your meds and try not to change anything for a good period. I try not to make changes anymore than every 90 days. And even then I only change one med at a time.

It seems like you have chronic pain, anxiety and sleep issues all working against you and all of your med trials have failed. The most important thing is finding what works. It took five years for my doc and I to realize that antipsychotics get me to remit from my episodes. Risperdione in particular is my wonder drug as far as reeling me back into sanity. Sometimes it just takes a week or so at an elevated dose. All my other meds stay the same. If you can find what will stabilize a crisis and get you to say 75% you can get that other 25% with other outlets.

I think if you can get some decent sleep the anxiety can be kept in check. I finally got sick of being sick last year and said to hell with AD's. I'm only doing stabilizers and AP's now. I've lost 75 pound since stopping Celexa. My doc is just as baffled as me! I jog four times a week and I'm functioning pretty well.

I think if you can get to a smaller more manageable cocktail with fewer sides and start with some yoga, massage, walking, etc you can make up for whatever the meds can't give you. All that being said I think the anxiety clinic will be a good place to start from scratch and lift you out of your funk.

I know I don't post much, but people always complain that we stop posting when we feel better. There is an acceptable level of recovery out there for all of us. One of my best friends went from an 8 drug cocktail and ECT back to working and she is med free today. Miracles can happen. Yours is around the corner. Don't give up.

mellow,

I tried to write you a big, profound post, but scratched it. Instead, just thank you, thank you, thank you. I will carry your post with me.

And your friend doing well after ect is always welcome news here. I/we need to hear about that.

And that you are too :-)

I so much agree with waited months for med changes, especialy for women, I take it a bit further and only 1 change in medication at a time.

I also need to thank you - for being so supportive to myself and other posters, even at the height of your misery.

Stanford's department of psychiatry has an excellent reputation. If memory serves, it's ranked second in the state, after UCLA.

I hope, and believe you will, get the medical care you deserve there.

It reenforces that real life people do end up med free once off the merry go round of meds. Phillipa
