One last question about Nortriptyline

Posted by morganator on December 26, 2009, at 10:26:42

Hope this is not getting annoying..Is it possible if Nortriptyline is dosed upon waking that it will still increase sleep quality during the night?

Anyone have an opinion/educated guess?

Perhaps the best way to look at it is to surmise that taking nortriptyline early in the day will minimize how it might disturb sleep at night. If you are looking for a tricyclic antidepressant to enhance sleep architecture, you might then consider trimipramine (Surmontil).

Thanks Scott

Actually I think if I just felt better taking Nortriptyline I would have better more productive days that might translate to better sleep at night.

Been feeling somewhat better lately but I'm still intrigued by the notion of taking a very low dose of Nortriptyline and seeing how I feel on it. Since getting off Zyprexa I am not nearly as depressed and I've been able to wake up earlier. Things are no where near where they should be but I think I'm headed in the right direction. I still experience a hangover like headache associated with fatigue and anxiety. This may just be severe anxiety. Who knows. I do think some of the natural supplements I started taking are paying off along with getting back to the gym

Thanks again for your prompt response. It would be nice to getting back to sleeping great for 7 or 8 hours and being able to take a nap whenever I needed. For some reason I had this back when I took just Zoloft for 8 years. I think part of it is emotional/psychological and the other part is an alteration in my brain chemistry.

I think probably the thing to do is experiment and see. Everyone will be different. Most people take it at night, SLS takes it three times a day, I like it best in late afternoon.

Someone at a natural forum discovered that tyrosine worked for them but only if they took it before bedtime...it didn't bother sleep but was kicking in just in time at wake-up call.

Many people at a St Johns Wort forum have discovered that herb works or doesn't work depending on when they take it. Morning or evening makes a big difference, but is not predictable from person to person.

Despite the halflife of Nort and other meds, I think there is more to the story that we don't know.

I will probably experiment with daytime dosing of Nortriptyline too.

Yeah I definitely want to do this and see how I feel. I just don't feel stimulated like I was just a year ago or more. Plus the damn constant headache with fatigue. But I have tons of anxiety with a very tight chest. Things that are stimulating have helped my anxiety in the past so maybe Nortriptyline will work. I will talk to my doc about starting with a low dose and staying on 100 mgs Zoloft, then adjust things as we go.

Hopefully I can wake my brain back up. Geeze you can even see it in my eyes most of the time. I hate it! Though I have felt better lately. It sucks everyone else around me feels totally normal and still has plenty of energy.

Thanks Scott and Bleauberry.
