I have been on antipsychotics for the last six months (first geodon, then seroquel, now abilify) and have experienced an ever-worsening chest tightness. My doctors attributed it to anxiety, but I have tried a whole host of anti-anxiety as well as side effect meds for the antipsychotics, and none of them seem to make a difference in the chest tightness. Now I'm going to have my heart chekced. And we also wonder if acid reflux couldn't be causing the breathing difficulties since the antipsychotics give me problems with my digestion. Does anyone else have any experience with antipsychotics and chest tightness? If so, did anything help? If you eventually went off the antipsychotics, did the chest tightness go away?

Betsy welcome to babble. Must be frightening. I don't have the answer hopefully someone will chime in with answer. Is your doc concerned? Diganosis? Phillipa

Could be the Abilify doing it. When I was on abilify it made me anxious. I didn't have chest tightness, but its possible that its a sign of anxiety. Did this start when you went on the abilify?

No, it started after I had been on geodon (the first antipsychotic I took) and has continued ever since even though I changed to seroquel and then abilify.

My diagnosis was indeterminate...psychotic, possible schizophrenia. I'm 29. I don't understand your second question.

I meant maybe they don't agree with you. How long have you been on the meds as schizophrenia I'm pretty sure does require an antipsychotic. but there are others. Any meds worked before for you? Are you seeing a psychiatrist? What are your symtoms? Love Phillipa

I went back and read your original post so six months on meds and stomach problems. Sounds like your doc is seeing if a medical problem could be responsible too. What are your symtoms though if you don't mind me asking. Love Phillipa

As far as psychotic symptoms go, I was having delusions and hearing some voices. Since I've been on antipsychotics, that has gone away, but I've suffered acid reflux...food comes up, the acid stings my throat, giving me chronic throat soreness. My stomach feels upset. My chest feels tighter and tighter each day. When I lay down to sleep I feel like I can't breathe.

Glad the psychotic symtoms gone. I'm sure the doc will find something for the acid. Good Luck Phillipa
