I love Lexapro + Abilify. Great Combo.

Posted by oldschool305 on November 16, 2008, at 9:24:29

Just wanted to say that I really love this combo. I am only taking 5mg of Lexapro with 5 mg of Abilify and I feel great! Good stuff.

I've tried so many antidepressants and man, it was horrible. The side effects were incedible. I did like Remeron because it helped me sleep but I gained too much weight. Paxil stunk. Zoloft stunk. Buspar stunk. Wellbutrin did nothing. Trazadone stunk. It all stunk. Lexapro was okay when taken alone, but once I added the Abilify to the mix... WoW. It seemed to increase the benefits of the Lexapro.

It feels good to finally feel good again. Just wanted to share my experience =P

Seems like abilify is helping in more ways then it was marketed for. Great to hear a wonderful success story. Love Phillipa

this is the combo that i wanted, but i can't afford abilify. i don't have insurance, but i do have a discount drug card & even using that it was just over $400 for a month's supply of the 10mg at my local superstore chain! ridiculous! how much have you been paying for the abilify, if you don't mind me asking...?

I second that! I take the same combo (along w/ some Lithium) and it has been great for me. I hope it keeps working for both of us!!

Best,

Buy it from overseas (not that i support buying neuroleptics.)

The professionals have not been deliquent in recognizing some of the properties of Abilify that are well suited for a number of official indications:

I was on Lexapro for about 3 years but then stopped taking it, thought I was better. Well, about two weeks ago I started up again and it's already working wonders. They say it can take up to 4 weeks to start working but I've only been on it two weeks and starting to feel like my old self again.

I also took Lamictal for awhile. In the very beginning it worked great but then i didn't notice any benefit from it so just gave up on it.

I now take Abilify with the Lexapro and it's nice. The lexapro makes me a bit lethargic but the abilify gives me a boost of energy so it's working out perfectly. By the way, Abilify is VERY expensive here in Florida, over $500 a month. However, my aunt works for a doctors office and gets me the sample packets for free :) I get the 15mg tablets and cut them up into 3 or 4 pieces, so it lasts a long time. I am very lucky otherwise there would be no way I could afford it.

Have you looked into the manufacturer's Patient Assistance Program or Pharmacy Assistance Program or some name like that (may also have the word Access in it)? The programs are meant for people who can't afford the meds. In my opinion, these programs offer a few crumbs for the unrich, which helps Big Pharma "justify" their exorbitant prices with a straight face.

As I understand it, usually you fill out a form w/ your personal financial info on it (yes, it's embarrassing) and have to have the prescribing dr's cooperation to sign it and provide the Rx, and if the drug maker approves you, they mail the med to your dr's office, a staff member calls you, and you pick it up at the dr's reception area.

At least that's how I get one of my meds (not Abilify). I've only gotten it once though, and they provided a 90 or 100 day supply. I think I will need to repeat the process every 90 or 100 days that I'm on it. They can be slow about it (like maybe three weeks?), so beg for samples in the meantime (if you can bear it).

As a note to readers with insurance: I currently do have insurance (kindly pd for by Mom, I can't afford it), and it does have pharmacy coverage, but my co-pay really was too expensive for me, and I wrote that honestly on the application. Cases like mine are kind of a gray area the manufacturer's don't like to discuss in public, I think, but if you apply there is a chance of approval. The chance of approval is higher if you don't have insurance, or don't have Rx coverage, tho.

Abilify gave me akathisia, (curses I say!), otherwise I really would prefer an energizing neuroleptic. Good luck!
