Jeroen you're not in the hospital anymore? I don't feel you should take a med without your doc's approval as he must have a reason he doesn't want you on it. Love Phillipa

Not that I am a doctor, or that I know your symptoms very well, but is it possible you have something other than schizophrenia. Possably depression with psychotic features??

The only reason I ask is because you say you responded well to seroquel initially. Seroquel probably has the most antidepressant effect of all the antipsychotics. Depression with psychotic features does not generally respond well to antipsychotics alone. Most studies show that an antidepressant alone or antidepressant + AP works much better than AP alone.

Have you ever tried just an antidepressant, with no antipsychotic?

Just a question.

Linkadge is kind of echoing what I've been saying all along. That is, I question the accuracy of the diagnosis. I still say the hoofprints look like a horse, but they are not. They are a zebra.

Start exploring antidepressant+antipsychotic; benzodiazepine with or without something else. It could be a form of massive anxiety that has brought your nervous system and body into the realm of schizophrenia, but it is still anxiety not schizophrenia. Just a thought.

Not sure if you thought about it last time....the horse and the zebra. They are different animals, but their prints look about the same. They have many similarities, but different animals. It isn't just the stripes.

Whatever the case, I agree with Linkadge that any antipsychotic by itself is going to be off target and of no good. That in fact has already been proven. That being said, while all the other antipsychotics have similarities, sulpiride is unique in that it affects dopamine and only dopamine, nothing else. The others are not like that. So I guess if one is to take one more shot at the APs, sulpiride or amisulpride make sense.

Going forward instead of thinking so hard on which AP to try, shift gears into thinking which AD, benzo, or mood stabilizer (depkote?) can I add to my AP.

Just some ideas.

you might try luvox. The sig-1r agonism is supposedly good in psychotic depression. There are some studies suggesting that it lowers the required dose of AP to have an effect. I.e. lower doses meaning fewer side effects.

In the past, I have had what they call 'mood congruent delusions'. I.e. when I get very depressed I start to think things that aren't true, and somtimes doesn't make any sense. When my mood improves my thinking makes more sense and goes back to normal.

Anyhow, you might experiement with certain supplements. Vitamin C is good for schizohprenia as is omega-3. Folic acid supposedly helps too.
They can also help depression.

You might also have a temporal lobe psychotic disorder. Have you ever had an EEG scan? Somtimes you can have an abnormal EEG which causes hallucinations. In this case meds like tegretol or depakote are usually needed to control symptoms.

Jeroen what Linkage and blueaberry say might well be true. Can you at least try an antidepressant? Ever been on one. You know I care for you and would love to see you better and back to living your life. Love Phillipa
