Should I shed Provigil too..?

Posted by Mishal on November 22, 2007, at 5:13:21

After reading the horror aftermath of feeling good, I decided to stop taking Trivastal.

What scared the hell out of me is knowing there would either be a full blown mania or depression to follow soon after feeling good. Though I was reluctant to cross the bridge before reaching it, I don’t risk depression.

But what about Provigil? It is a med that helped me overcome the gloominess that was there eversince I started to live my life. It made the transition possible from a chronic hypersomnolent, depressed myself to a cheerful, vigil human.

Would there be another side for this coin too? Do I risk depression by keeping it in check?

Please answer..

You need to talk to your p-doc about your meds. People usually build up a tolerance to provigil also and have to escalate their doses. It sounds like you got more out of trivastal than the provigil. I would sooner take provigil out of the mix than the trivastal. If your concerned about adrenal burnout take a couple days off the trivastal a week or one week a month. After all people often have insomnia on maois but don't give them up if their getting a good response.
Using dopamine agonists as an augment to ssris is a strategy that is used by p-docs. I wouldn't give up this med before talking to your p-doc as your getting such a good response.

bulldog2,

Thanks for your time. But I reap more from Provigil than Trivastal. Provigil is the only med that covers almost all of my symptoms.
The symptoms Provigil cover.

1. Anxiety
2. Melancholia
3. Apathy
4. Attention-focusing problems.
5. Sleeping problems. Keeps me awake when I want to. Helps to shut me down easily.
6. Low energy. Provigil has turned me into an energetic, vigil person.

But as I said earlier, I began to turn on Trivastal. Everything was in the normal range while on Provigil, but the addition of Trivastal amplified the effects of Provigil and Prozac to the point where I am now. Guess where I am now? I am there in the hypomanic range. Or at least I am constantly worrying of hypomania.

Can you worry if you're hypomanic? I'd think if you were you'd be so active and happy you wouldn't have time to think. Don't know if this makes sense. Phillipa

Just an opinion, but I think you should stick with Provigil if it has helped so much. The other one maybe was a bit much? Not sure. If I'm not mistaken, I think Travastel is time released. Usually if you break a tab it loses that time release and becomes immediate. I wonder how you might do if you took maybe 1/8th of a dose spread out twice or three times in a day? Maybe even just once in the morning? Even if it retained its time release after breaking it up or cutting it up, taking a much smaller amount could give you some benefits without being too much. Just a thought.
