I am going to give Wellbutrin XL 150 mg. a try.
If Wellbutrin XL is a once a day pill (24 hours) does it need to be taken in the AM to prevent insomnia?
Thanks in advance. :) AnneL

definately take it in the AM. It's time released but by bedtime the strongest effects should have worn off. Unforunately, you may still have some trouble getting to sleep. Are you taking anything else with it? Hopefully something you can take at night just to be sure you get some sleep. I was taking Wellbutrin in the morning, and Lexapro at night which helped me fall asleep.

I started the Wellbutrin XL 150 mg. this AM. I don't think I will have any problems falling asleep because I am taking 500 mg. of Depakote at bedtime along with Seroquel 50 mg, Rozerem 8 mg, and Klonopin 1 mg. I fall asleep and stay asleep for a good 9 hours!
I am really hoping that I can tolerate the Wellbutrin XL because I would like to finally get off of Effexor which is horrible due to sexual side effects. I am scared of all of the reports of nervousness, jitteriness, etc.
Thanks for your reply. :) AnneL

I take it at night. Somehow it seems to give me a burst of energy 8 to 10 hours after taking it. So, if I take it in the morning I seem to have worse insomnia at night. Perhaps I'm just a little odd...

Hi Simcha

I don't think you are odd :) After taking a dose of Wellbutrin XL, the peak blood level generally occurs after about 5 hours, although this is variable of course. Taking it last thing at night will minimise the blood level at bedtime and maximise the blood level in the early morning. For this reason, taking it at bedtime may indeed be useful.
Taking Wellbutrin XL in the morning is more common, and is recommended by the manufacturer, but it may not be optimal for everyone.

I would take it all at breakfast time, first thing in morning. It will wake you up and last most of the day. Wearing off at night.

All of which have long (24+ hr) half-lives and accumulate heavily. After a week or two, you'll be at a steady state and it shouldn't matter when you take.
