How long does tianeptine take to work?

Posted by fuchsia on September 10, 2007, at 7:18:09

Some posters here have said that you can tell within days whether tianeptine will work for you. Other information I have suggests that it could take weeks. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I've been taking it for 3 days now with no sign of a beneficial result although I am still at a low dose. I have severe chronic treatment resistant BPII depression and the tianeptine is my last hope. I'm already on Lamictal which is was the only thing that has been consistently helpful but it's by no means enough.

thanks

I posted a follow-up in my tianeptine thread. I started rapid-cycling on day 3 and by day 9 I was no longer depressed. From everything I've read, both anecdotes and studies, people usually START to get effects between days 7 and 14 and a lot of people claim that you don't get the full effect for 4-6 weeks.

Hi Dragon Black

Thanks for that. I have been feeling somewhat better as of yesterday evening (day 6)when I suddenly popped out of the bad depression and was a bit hypomanic. I didn't sleep much that night though nor last night. It could be sleep deprivation that has kept me feeling OK today but I suspect not as I haven't felt very sleepy. Hopefully it will fulfill the promise of its brand name 'Stablon' and I will stabilize. I am wondering now if it has been studied in relation to bipolar at all.
