I just had the most terrible time this past week, and it was, of course, the week before my cycle started. I'm currently on 100mg Zoloft, 200mg Lyrica (nerve pain), and 1mg of clonazepam. I lost my job because my position was eliminated (or so the company says) and then when the PMS kicked in one week afterward, I was a raging lunatic and displayed some behavior that my children really should not have had to tolerate (like they had a choice)! I cannot seem to handle stress well, even with the various med combinations I've tried. Is there anything you might suggest? Increasing benzo dose? Adding a mood stabilizer? I'm beginning to feel hopeless again. Maybe I just need to see if I'm finally eligible to get pdoc services for free again.
Thanks.
Colleen,
single mom to 3

A low dose of Prozac is known to be helpful for serious PMS. About 5-10 mg a day.
I'm sorry you are going through such a rough time.

What's your nerve pain from?
Bad back?
How bad is it?
Can you sit without pain?
And so on.

I can not recommend magnesium (you know the mineral supplement) enough for PMS. Simply, it really really really helps. I went for a year taking 'magnesium OK' (I don't know if they sell it in the country you live in)
http://www.wassen.com/shop/womens_health/magnesiumok.html
Anyway, I took it for a year, and my periods were no trouble whatsoever, and I get really bad PMS. Not even a single little cramp. Seriously, really, (if you're not already doing so) supplement with magnesium. It really helps! And has got to be better than adding another AD/benzo thing.
I'm not taking anything at the mo, but I'm waiting for some supplements in the post! :)
Kind regards
Meri

Thank you. I will ask my pdoc about this!

Thanks, Jan. I guess with a little more time on my hands, a pdoc couldn't hurt!

> What's your nerve pain from?
Degenerative disc disease, sciatica, hip joint pain (arthritis???) I CAN sit without pain which was not the case before Lyrica. The worst part is trying to be comfortable at night in bed. I need to practically knock myself out with sleep-aids to get a good night's sleep. I think we talked about this before via babble-mail. But more stress = more pain. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your reply,
Colleen

Hi Meri!
I will definitely try the magnesium. I have had horrid cycles ever since I can remember! Thanks!

Hi Colleen
I wasn't sure it was you...I just forget.
As I would have said, I do Pilates for my degenerative spinal condition.
I've done maybe 18 months and I'll have to keep doing it.
Nerve pain is just awful.Boswellia, and
Curcumin (from Tumeric)
are both useful antiinflammories.I would land up in hospital with septic arthitis within a month if I didn't take those and
glucosamine
fish oil, and
various flavanoids.High maintenance, hey?

Ask your doc about Quasense. (I sound like a commercial). Anyhow its a low dose birth control pill, so you dont have a period for like 3 months. If your a single mom, you probably wouldnt have quarrels with birth control (my mother got preggers w/ 3rd child while single and poor), its not like you have to use it for controlling birth. I've found its nice to not have a period for 3 months. Im the pms b*tch. Mixed with the BipolarII, pms is just rage, and crying. The pill quasense has age issues, i think. But, I like it.
