Hi folks. It's been a LONG time.
I had a horrific depression 2 years ago (which led me here).
TO make a long story short- I got very sick (physically), led to horrific, deep, dark depression/anxiety and have spent two year's crawling out of that pit of a hole.I finally got diagnosed with fibromyalgia, Epstein Barr, AND Lyme's disease ( yeah.. triple whammie).
Oddly enough, as I started Ultram ( for pain management) I notice a HUGE difference in my moods.
No more depression- no more anxiety. I'm not even a "clean house freak" like I usually am.
My husband isn't sure what to do with this new woman ( after 9 years of marriage).
Anyone know why Ultram has helped so much with depression and anxiety?
Either way, I never had any luck with SSRI's ( they wigged me out and made me worse) but this seems to help my chronic pain, low energy, and my depression.
Wondering if anyone else has had this effect?

A lot of times when I've found somethign that works, I'm just glad it does because it's so hard to find something. I dont worry about the how until later :) Congrats again

Spriggy,
I've been wondering about you! Glad you found something that seems to be helping.

Hello!
Nice you see you again! Of course we remember you!
Here's what Scott SLS has to say about Ultram (tramadol):
opioid:
opioid(mu) agonist
NE reuptake inhibition +
5-HT reuptake inhibition +http://sl.schofield3.home.att.net/medicine/psychiatric_drugs_chart.html
So my guess the reason why its helping is that its an opioid and has some action on sertonin and noradrenlin :o)
If it works, it works! I'm glad you've found some relief anyway.
Kind regards
Meri

Spriggy opiods make me feel better too. They are saying they are more addictive than benzos and other meds but the work don't they. Congrats. So you did have lymes like me? Love Phillipa

I am going on week 7.
I did have a "brief' interuption- I had a flu (vomiting) for 3 days and could keep no meds down, so other than that brief lapse, it has been around 7 weeks.

Ultram as you know is an opiate pain killer and most opiates have a positive affect on mood. If the effects start to wane the only suggestions i have is 1) a drug holiday or 2) an nmda receptor antagonist like memantine which will inhibit the build up of tolerance. It may also allow you to take a smaller dose whilst increasing its pain killing capacity. Keep us posted! :)
