Here's what Scott SLS has to say about Ultram (tramadol):
opioid:
opioid(mu) agonist
NE reuptake inhibition +
5-HT reuptake inhibition +

So my guess the reason why its helping is that its an opioid and has some action on sertonin and noradrenlin :o)
