Is there a limit to how many stimulants one can take? I have narcolepsy of a sort, excessive daytime sleepiness. I take 400 mg of provigil (spread over the day,) 60 mg of dextroamphetamine (spread over the day,) and 25 mg of desipramine. I still get sleepy and space out and fall asleep easily. My motivation goes up and down. I don't collapse with cataplexy but, apparently my barely perceptible moments of blanking out suggest narcolepsy. Anything else I should try? Thanks, River.

I have been on diffrent amphetamines for 10 years. They dont work as well when you are really tired, it doesnt take effect as much.
I do not have narcolepsy. I have ADD, im 18 i started back long time ago.
Im sorry you have this condition, that would really be bad. Provigil and Amphetamine and Despirine both increase the effect of amphetamine.
Im matt. Cant really give you much information but hope someone can.
My life just flipped over and im 18, well just read my other posts.
Please take care
Matt

hey! I think there are "suggested upper-limits"--the FDA recommends 40mgs/day for ADHD, 60mgs/day for narcolepsy--but I don't think docs actually follow those; individuals vary wildly. A friend of mine takes 120mgs of adderall per day for ADD. The limits of stimulant intake are decided more by your doc's preferences and your responses than any set-in-stone rules.
These seems odd but..maybe adding ritalin (low-dose) would help? Sometimes mixing the stimulants does more than just upping one of them to the max. Switching to Desoxyn (methamphetamine) could minimize side effects, since its more potent and lower doses=fewer side effects for a lot of people.

I take focalin (for ADHD, not narcolepsy)
The risk with stimulants for me is that I can end up short on sleep, which will still slow me down.
Do you sleep well at night?
Do you exercise regularly?I find dexedrine affects my sleep more than Ritalin. Exercise helps me a lot.

At the risk of offending, have you tried a psychological approach as well?
I have symptoms not dissimilar to yours, and my neurologist is positive I have narcolepsy or some sleep disorder. But I'm also well aware that I like to escape stress, anxiety, distress, etc. by blanking out, and falling asleep (I think) is a form of that on my part. I'm not saying it is on yours.
I still need my Provigil, but augmentation with therapy is also helpful.
Also, have you checked for diabetes, or insulin sensitivity?
