I submitted a post about this previously, but no one has responded to it yet. I need to know what people think about the differences between Celexa and Lexapro. I can't decide which one I want to take. Although I used Celexa successfully for years, it seemed to stop working for me after about a year at 40 mg. I have been taking 10 mg. Lexapro for the past couple of weeks with terrible nausea. I've tried almost every other drug out there and these are the two that seem to work best for my mood, but they both seem to have drawbacks. Can someone please give me an outside opinion? Thanks.

I don't know how much help my post will be. I am doing well on Lexapro. I have not tried Celexa, so I can't compare the two. I did try other SSRI's and did not tolerate them. Lexapro was appealing due to being a isomer and "thought" to be bit of a cleaner med with reported less SE profile.
Lexapro startup was a little rough for me with anxiety upramp. I had no GI complaints like nausea. At about the 2-3 week mark all was good and improvement has been steady for anxiety and depression.
Sorry I can't help more.

Often, the nausea is a startup side effect that disappears over the first few weeks. Is there a trend towards an improvement of nausea? Is it helping with depression? Have you tried Cymbalta?

There is no difference between the two drugs. Lexapro is a left handed isomer of Celexa, it was a patent protection move ($$). Either/or should have about the same effects, though the doses will be different (usually Lexapro is half of the equivilent Celexa dose).
As Scott mentioned, Cymbalta has shown outstanding results and might be worth a try -- the only drawback is that it is quite expensive. Good luck.

Matt

You should not be concerned about Celexa being less effective after a year at 40 mg. If you had raised the dose, it would have kept working.
I am on Lexapro and have been for a long time. Before that, I took Celexa for a long time. They are similar. I think that Lexapro caused a bit less tiredness for me. But I am not tired anymore because a few months a go I added Concerta.
