If you like to feel like you are on "speed" you will love it. LOL
Seriously, if your main issue is depression, I have heard it works pretty well. My main thing was anxiety so it was a big no no for me.
It might also help you lose a few pounds.
I didn't eat for 4 entire days while on it.

It may increase your libido tremendously. No kidding.

I have severe anxiety and OCD problems to begin with, so it just made all of that worse. It was definitely not the right drug for me to be using personally, but I know that it works for many people and can be extremely helpful if you are not already a tense, nervous, high-strung individual. If you ARE, you should be very careful with it. It also caused a lot of itching with me, which I don't think is necessarily typical but I know that others have experienced it. Sometimes people have allergies to the slow-release coating on the XL pills. Anyway, that's my two cents. Good luck! :)

Hi,
Wellbutrin was not effective for me personally (for depression) mainly because I really need an SSRI (Lexapro has been the best so far for me) because I have mainly Seasonal Affective Depression & SSRI's are supposed to be the best AD's for this type of depression.
I got on Wellbutrin SR and then later XL last last fall because I thought Zoloft was making me gain weight and giving me stomach discomfort. I think Wellbutrin is quite weight neutral, but some people have claimed they lost a bit of weight while on it--I did not, but have while on Lexapro--go figure! Everyone's mileage varies, as they say...
Good luck with giving it a try!!> Pdoc just starated me on wellbutrin. Just wanted to know any experiences on its efect on depression. does it make you tired, fat etc..

i'm on XL at 150 (was on 300 before). there is a possible chance of weight loss, however i think it's mostly weight neutral. this is the only AD that has worked for me. i have BP2 and cannot use SSRI's cuz they shoot me up and into rapid cycling.

I'm on Cymbalta 30mg, Provigil 100mg, and Wellbutrin XL which we've just upped to 300mg as of today. The Cymbalta was nice enough, but didn't do much for my depression and left me totally lethargic and amotivated. When Wellbutrin was added, my depression lifted in about a week! Seriously, within about a week I went from very depressed to singing off key and out of tune in the morning as I cooked breakfast.
Now if only they'd come up with an antidepressant that could make me sing on key, eh?
I've gained 35 pounds since I started taking it, but then again I'm also being treated for anorexia, so that's alleged to be a good thing... (Don't ask me what I think about that, 'K?)
Anyway, although I am also dx'd with anxiety, I have been warned repeatedly that it can make that worse. What I'm aware of, though, is that since my depression is better, and since I'm not impersonating a slug, my anxiety is actually reduced -- probably because I can channel the energy that would feed the anxiety into doing something useful, you know?
Hope that helps.

You mean there is a difference? Can you explain what it is. I tried effexor years ago, I thought the others were just an extended release form of the original effexor. Fondly, Phillipa

I was wondering because it seems to me, some of the extended formulations of meds release the med so slow, you don't get the effects of the med. Like drinking a cup of coffee in 20 minutes versus 4 hours.
It seems the ONLY reason Extended versions of meds come out is because they lose there patent and generics come out. They always come out at the same time and I wonder if the drug companies are really trying to improve the med or not?

Several years ago, Welbutrin SR worked for me quite well, and I eventually got to the point where I was able to discontinue it.
My depression returned recently, and I started on Welbutrin XL at 150 mg a day. I could tell the dosage was too low -- it just wasn't staving off the bad feelings -- so I asked to be upped to 300 mg.
300 mg was too much -- lots of anxiety, which I have NEVER experienced before. Unfortunately, I'd just gotten a 90-day supply of 300 mg. pills when I discovered this.
So I went to 300 mg. every other day. Why this works better for me than 150 a day I don't know. But it does.
The bad part -- I sometimes forget whether it's an "on" or "off" day and skip one when I should have taken it. When I do that, I can tell!
This is the end of the thread.
