This topic's been explored lots before, but I haven't been active on Psychobabble for a while and wondered if people have new tips for dealing with it or if there has been any more research done on the mechanisms which cause it.
I gained 30 pounds on Zoloft many years ago, exercised some of it off, and then got put on Depakote for just-diagnosed bipolar 2 and have gained most of it back. I am hungry all the time. I know my metabolic rate is normal (found a nutritionist, took a test). I exercise regularly. This extra weight is really bugging me. And yes, I've tried Wellbutrin (well-meaning advice I've gotten before)-- it doesn't work for me.

Hi,
Still taking Depakote? Perhaps you could replace it with something less obesity-inducing!

tried trileptal and lithium, didn't stop mood swings.
Re topamax: side effects? (nausea, right?)

Me again, re Topomax. Just looked it up on the web... seems like it often causes memory probs, confusion. I have a lot of that anyhow-- I think as a result of all the meds I'm taking right now-- Effexor, Abilify, Depakote, low dose of Trileptal, Provovigil, Lamictal. Oy. I'm a walking medicine cabinet!
