Hey Scott,
I know you've been trying a new medicine and I wanted to make sure you're doing ok, just a check up on one of my fellow posters, hope all is well!
Chris

Hey Chris!

Thanks!

I am now at 60mg of Cymbalta.

I am reluctant to say this, but I am experiencing some phenomena that are consistent markers for me of a positive antidepressant response. Even if this drug does not pan-out for me, my guess is that it will demonstrate itself to be very effective for many others - perhaps including you.

I'm on day three of Cymbalta, myself, and so far it's pretty similar to the initial effects I remember of Effexor XR: within about three hours, I got calmer, which is always nice, but there's a 'funny feeling' in my head, a funny taste in my mouth, and a sort of appetite suppression that's arguably -- in my case -- one of the most beneficial effects -- sure, there's some suppression, but it's primary effect in my case is to stop me from getting the same sort of tension about eating, so it's easier for me to eat. (Yeah, well -- I'm nuts. You didn't know that already?) I suspect that, for someone without my kind of {ahem} eating patterns, the calming effect on appetite might lead to a slight inclination to eat less, but be otherwise neutral.

Scott, I forget -- have you been on Effexor? The new pdoc calling Cymbalta "sort of Effexor Jr" makes me a bit hesitant to get my hopes up on it, but even though I only had a partial response to it, I did respond to Effexor.

I do hope it works out -- for us both. Mostly, though, Scott -- I've never been 'treatment resistant' in any real sense, I just haven't had access to effective treatment so it looks as if I am. And, as a reaction to the treatment I have had, I get resistant *to* treatment. ;-D So, I hope it works out for you, and gives you a good ride.

Warmth and affection to you.

Hi Racer,

I am happy that your first few days of Cymbalta have not been a turn-off. I am also happy that you should have experienced such an immediate "blip" response. I feel that a short positive response to an antidepressant within the first 3 days is a good prognosticator of a long-term response to emerge weeks later.

My appetite has not increased. Food does taste better, though. For me, that's a good sign.

Yes, and I had a partial response to it.

I am encouraged for you that this drug will work. Like it or not, I said a few prayers for you.

:-)

Racer, I know that life recently has not been a cakewalk, so I hope you get some relief from the traitorous chemicals in your brain with cymbalta. I am routing for you woman!!!

And Scott, you are always so kind and unselfish in your responses. You really made a difference for me about 6 weeks ago. I wish you great success.

Diane

That's terrific news! I'll keep some digits crossed for you that effect continues. Keep us posted.
